D5 for the weekend
Had a word with my local stealers and convinced them to lend me a D5 for the weekend, we're going to give it a good run out tomorrow so I'll give my review then. The 5 miles I drove back from the dealers, it felt great, whether it's a massive step up as the D4 is a great motor, I'm yet to be convinced but we'll see how it fares this weekend.
Old and new - Cheers Scott.

Is this the alternative to the old barber asking "something for the weekend sir?"
Or are you to young to remember that?

That D4 is so handsome! It seems so compact near the D5, yet, it feels more "roomy" inside.
Sorry, but most in here keep saying that the D5's rear is awful but for me the front is no better...

That had occurred to me as well when I saw it in the flesh. Why did they have the make the front so bulbous? It reminds me of Ollie the Octopus.

Like the D5 in black.
Why is the license plate on the D5 on the top bumper? It will look better at the bottom like on the D4.

Enjoy. It is a very impressive car.

2L or 3L?
I'd be interested in your thoughts as I had the 2L for a couple of days and a quick run round in the 3L the other day at Millbrook...D4 Commercial - 65 Plate, 2016MY
D5 Commercial - Handed back when I left that job…
D4 Commercial (2014MY) - gone
D4 Commercial SDV6 - Baltic Blue (also gone)
D1 300TDi... 2" lift, HD bumpers (both), detachable tow hitch, 9,500lb winch, 235/85/16 muds and plenty of other toys (gone to make way for the next toy...)
Smiles per Mile - Tornado Motorsports caged Evo 3... 100" Defender look-alike, with Range Rover running gear - all fully IVA'd and registered!

Probably a combination of things like aerodynamics and pedestrian safety.

Despite all of my negative comments about the D5, I am trying to like it (no, honestly I am!), to the point I am just back from the dealers, but the more I see it the more I actually dislike all aspects of the exterior design, nothing seems to flow as they have taken so many different styling cues and tried to stick them together and for me sadly none of it works.Andy

If peeps thought I was a tad critical re the D5 looks, they should hear SWMBO!! And sadly for JLR she holds the purse strings.
Yes, mouse and she does before anyone asks.

I sort of agree about the looks, although they have grown on me the longer I have owned the car.
It was the upgraded interior and drive that sold it to me in the first instance.
Maybe I not so fussy about looks as some others.
But then again the D3/4 was no looker!!

Mine considers our D4 to be "pig ugly" and told the salesman that, causing him to look a bit nonplussed for a while. She hasn't yet managed to put into words what she thinks of the D5, so clearly things are really bad!
She too holds the purse strings Andy

Jimbg- I do accept I am incredibly picky, more so over the interior and would only buy a D4 with an almond interior for example.
But equally I wouldn't buy a Graphite (don't like the wheel colour and can't be bothered to change them), nor a Landmark (don't like the use of the leftover black pack trim).
So really I am just a fuss as my mum keeps telling me for most of the past 40 odd years, so I am clearly not the best person to give out opinions on design!Andy

Should never apologise for being fussy when judging good design... it's all about the details. Just a shame the idiot who designed the D5 wasn't fussy at all.
