35ltr of petrol in a tdv6

So yep, less than a week before I take possession of a goooorgeous D4, I just half filled my disco 3 with petrol. Luckily I didn't start the engine before realising my error, but still had to fork over £200 to the rac and wait an hour and a half for them to get to me. On the bright side, I guess I'm getting it out of my system before I get the new one Thumbs Up

Me too! ut mine was in Germany where the colours are different at the pumps and not obvious when you have been driving for a while.

embarrassing but we learn to be more obsessive to prevent it happening again, double checking all the time!!

I didn't realise I'd put £10 of petrol in my diesel vectra until I was half way to work and it started jerking and coughing. Was told all sorts of horror stories. In the end I put a Jerry can of fresh diesel in, a fresh filter full of clean diesel in and she ran better than ever. Smoked for a while after start up though.... Rolling with laughter

Embarrassingly done it twice - the colour of the fuel filler cap is the same as the colour of the unleaded pump ... Almost the same shade of yellow. Almost got the gumption to contact
LR and suggest they change the colour to bright pink or something

I managed a

Complete tankful from m/t....engine nor started
Rescued by the local fuel doctor
At a huge cost all sucked out...
More diesel in...this sucked out then a 1/2 tank - start the engine....
No problems at all

Thecre fuelling stop was at a Shell station in Keighley in W.Yorks...strange pumps thatveadiky confuse...pumps now gone.

My SWMBO'd says the first & only time we did this...
Cost of petrol £"s
Cost of rescue £'s
Cost of diesel fill £'s
Cost of fuel treatment put in £'s
Not a low cost mistake
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Only done this once ...

Not long after changing from a petrol V70 to a diesel one, I put less than a tenner of petrol into an empty tank before realising what I was doing. After a few minutes of wondering what the hell to do, I brimmed it with diesel, and cautiously drove it the few miles home without issue.

Next morning, thinking that I ought to make sure I wasn't doing anything that would cause more problems, I made a couple of phone calls. The responses of the two Volvo dealers I spoke to were comically different!

First one was the Volvo dealer nearest where I live. "Did you start it?" - "Yes" - "Oh dear, well, that means you're going to have to have the entire engine replaced at a cost of about £3000"!!! Did they think I dropped out of the trees yesterday? (Rhetorical question - yes, they did, they treated everyone that way which is why I refused to take my car there!)

Second one - another main dealer a few miles further away - "Ah, I wouldn't worry about it, I used to work on wagons and we regularly put a splash of petrol into the tanks on a winter morning to stop the diesel freezing. Just keep topping it up with diesel and you'll be fine"! (Was tempted to go down this route, but I didn't quite buy into the rather relaxed approach that he seemed to be advocating!)

In the end I just took it to my local Volvo indy, got them to suck out the contaminated diesel, replace the filters and put the right stuff back in. Had no problems with it after that.
