Help and advice needed. Hazards flashing car not cranking. |
|
Hello all.
I appreciate this may be a duplicate.
But having looked through all the similar issues and nothing prevailing i thought I'd ask.
I have recently purchased a Disco 3 56 plate reg in 07 auto 2.7 tdv6 currently done 133433 miles and is my pride and joy along side my other land rovers.
It all started with the vehicle whilst driving coming up with a message on the radio saying vehicle fault system shutting down and hazards coming on with no nav and no stereo or blowers. Along with doors unlocking and locking again.
It continued to do this intermittently.
I then had the cambelts changed and all seemed well again.
Then whilst driving it again it did the above mentioned 3 times in a row then stopped and we where able to continue our journey.
My parents then borrowed it to move house and whilst doing a tip run stopped the car to come back to it dead. Throwing up parking brake faults HDC Fault no transmission faults. The car would not crank to even try and start.
My friendly forums ( here ) and my local specialist said the most likely cause is the battery.
I have now replaced the battery that i checked with landrover would be suitable.
All fuses where checked by MR R.A.C.
Took it for a run ....... same issue.
It is now dead on my driveway. Not cranking turning over or anything. Hard resets doing nothing i have checked the ecu behind the battery which is dry
I have even removed the Halfords bulb i bought to replace the broken Brake bulb, as logic would suggest if it ran fine with it broken and i put that in maybe that's the cause.
The only thing i havnt checked is the brake light switch behind the brake pedal.
Please any advice woould be appreciated. As i love this vehicle and only had it a month.
Thank you in advance.

So an update on what's happening.
As i have put above, i have checked the ECU behind the battery all nice and dry and looking clean.
A little water down by a grommet underneath the battery that has electric wires going through leading to behind the cubby hole.
Havnt been able to check WIGGS suggestion of the behind the flap located behind the N.S.R wheel.
But yesterday put the battery on and hazards flashing without even having the ignition on.
Left it flashing for a fair few hours and came out to find car still flashing.
Thought I'd give the ignition ago and she started up no problems left her running for a while then as it was getting dark put the headlights on and with in a miniute the hazards where flashing and error message on the stereo VEHICLE FUALT SYSTEM SHUTTING DOWN flashed up and every thing shut down but engine and special programs etc all working.
Turned car off no ignition again car locking and unlocking and same faults.
Came out to car this morning started right up no problems.
Tomorrow is my day off so i will leave it running/go for a drive and see what it does.
Could the issue be the alternator ? As well as a can bus issue ?
Thanks again guys.

Hazards Flashing is a canbus issue usually or Crash mode.
As Wiggs said before, check the wiring rear wheel. Very common issue. Bodsys Brake Bible
D4/D3 Remote FBH heat kits
BAS Remaps/ EGR Blank
Transmission Flush
Software updates/enabling

Hello all
Thank you for all your help so far.
Little update.
Checked rear wheel.
I have no flap but the connectors where there and one was wrapped in electrical tape. Disconncted the connectors and looked inside all seemed well and wiring looks ok as far as we could see.
Sprayed with special electrical cleaner and reconnected.
Then moved to the all the plastics in the passenger foot well and found the 3 connectors there that are coloured dark grey light grey and green
Disconnected the green one as per previous posts. All looking good.
Car kept refusing to to turn on then suddenly started up.
Took for a quick drive as it hasn't moved in a while and after a hour of driving i squirted my windscreen and turned the lights on. Within a few mins flashing lights and vehicle fault system shutting down. Left running on my drive and it cleared it self no flashing lights and turned car off.
Next day ( 15/6/17) turned car on and it fired up straight away. Left running for an hour no problems turned lights on as it was getting dark and within a minuet flashing lights and car will not crank over.
We looked at the green connector again and i was trying to crank the car and we heard a clicking noise.
Not from the grey or green connectors but from 3 fuses on the board behind the glove box.
Investigating further they are big square fuses that run the 12 volt power socket the stereo and headphones and one other i have forgotten
If you try and crank the engine you can feel them clicking.
Does this sound like it needs replacing etc ?
Thank you for your help again guys i seriously appreciate it.

Fuses don't click, relays do. However if you have a loose connection, you can get arcing across the contacts which can sound like a click.
If there is arcing, you will see evidence on the terminals of the components. There will also be some heat involved.
If you can, try to remove the relays one by one and check for condition of the terminals. Do the same with the fuses. If any are really easy to remove they might be the cause as they could be loose. By removing the relays and replacing them again, it will clean the terminals and improve the connections.

Excellent thank you.
I'm not mechanicaly minded at all lol.
When i touched them they where very hot. As a-posed to the rest of the same big relays i have looked and touched.
I will have to pull them out and look at them.
THank you again.

The ones that are clicking are R1 R3 And R5
On the following diagram
http://knigaproavto.ru/shemy/en/land-rover...-2009.html
They where hot when i touched them.
Not sure i have ever heard them click when starting the car normaly but as soon as the car wont crank its a very loud click and you can feel them clicking.
Thanks again guys.
