Well that didn't take long...
Morning All,
We've just acquired a D3 after 10 years with a D1. In the first 2 weeks it's developed 2 faults I'll be looking at this weekend but could do with a few pointers before I get going if anyone has them please.
1. Clunking from OS front wheel area when accelerating out of/through a right hand bend. Suspected CV so had a quick shufty underneath and there is some fluid under the sump guard which looks like reasonably fresh oil on that side. I'm gonna drop the guard tomorrow and have a good rummage but anything else it might be or that I should check whilst there?
2. HDC/Transmission fault/reduced gears/special programs etc. comes on intermittently. Clears when turned off an back on though sometimes takes a few cycles. Replaced battery and brake switch as a matter of course but have not done bulbs. Suspect only way to really fix is get Indy with diags on and work out which cable or sensor is causing the gremlin and resolve. Anything else worth checking/doing prior to that?
We bought from a used car dealer so there is some (limited) warranty to fall back on though I always like to have an idea before sending any vehicle for work. Has just passed MOT with no advisories but that doesn't rule anything out. Has also been in for a service (call me paranoid) so the fluid could just be leak from filter/sump plug?

clunking could also be the susp arm bushes, which *should* be an MOT failure?
One course could be to take it for an independant MOT - at the least it will give you a list to hit the dealers warranty with...

Don't think it's the bushes as it's definately a rotational clunk!

CV is lubricated using grease. Clunk could be the CV so check if gaiters are split any where.
As regards the oil, when you have the sump guard of check for corrosion around the oil temp housing . That could be your oil problem.

Oil will probably be the power steering rack.
The grommets going into the unit sealing the pipes leak. I put Lucas stop leak in mine )in reservoir) about 12 months ago and the level in the reservoir hasn't dropped a mm. so worth a try. The O-rings can also be bought cheaply if you'd prefer to do a proper job?

Had a shufty and found a few interesting areas.
First off it looks like the steering rack has a leak on the NS.
Secondly it look like the OS driveshaft has a leak.
Lastly I found a hose hanging loose over the OS rear which I pushed back on to it's obvious union. Do these have a habit of parting company or just badly fitted first time round?

Just an update after the Indy finished with it.
Intermittent HDC etc. seems to have been fixed by replacing the EGRs (which were apparently causing the cascading errors).
Leak on both sides down to fuel rail leaks, now resolved.
Suspension still lowers when left, so will need to spend some time narrowing that down before it goes back.
Noise when turning still present, DSC related. Indy did 4 wheel alignment and recalibrated SAS but this hasn't fixed the issue.

DSC related noise when turning if a grinding noise could be down to tryre pressure, my nearside front disc/pads were completely worn down due to a low front tyre bringing on the DSC on roundabaouts!Series 1 V8

I spotted that when I did a search after realising it was DSC related (it doesn't happen if I turn DSC off). Duly went and checked the tyre pressures and they were all bang on.
Now starting to wonder if it's a knock on from the suspension fault.
