Vibration under slight load after new TC!

There been lots on here on this subject, but I can't get to the bottom of it. 2006 D3 SE New Torque convertor 20,000 miles/18 months ago. The car has developed a vibration at around 1600 when accelerating lightly from stop. Heavy acceleration from stop does not cause vibration. The vibration is best described as the 'cattle grid' effect one would expect from a slipping TC, and very similar to how this car was before the TC was replaced. It seems that the vibration only happens in 3rd gear, but I'm not sure - is that even possible? Ive considered tyre noise (GG AT2s fitted - about 20000 miles ago also) but I think its not road speed related. When it vibrates and I take my foot off the gas and reapply it, the vibration completely disappears! How can that be!! If i put it in sport mode, the vibration is almost gone. If I put it in Command shift, the gear box behaves perfectly with no vibration. Can anybody explain these symptoms please.

The TC came from Bristol transmissions and was fitted by a good LR independent. I didn't realise you could have a gearbox rebuilt, I thought a recon one was the only option, is a rebuild likely to be expensive?

The difference in symptoms between drive and command shift suggests either a bad TC or a clutch problem.

As was my recon TC from Bristol Transmissions. Confused Interesting that another BT TC did the same as mine.

Box being rebuilt at these chaps. http://www.autogearboxes.co.uk/ They have a good reputation here and elsewhere. New TC and rebuild the box is ~£2,100+VAT.

DSL Thanks for that, you have given me some valuable info. Im going to take it in to my indy next week and let him take a look. I might also try some Dr Tranny - it might buy me some time. Needless to say I will be disapointed if it needs a new TC after only 20,000 miles. How long does a gear box rebuild take with these guys? Does the price include removal and refitting the gear box? Thanks

All in price. Thumbs Up Mine was in with little notice so will be taking a bit longer than normal, prob 2 weeks, but they know I'm not in a rush. Should only be a few days. Thumbs Up
