Tried to explain to a guy yesterday what to do with the small key, he thought I was bonkers... went out to his car (55 plate HSE) and no padlock on the door handle and nowhere to put they key?
EDIT: he didn't have the small key which is what started the conversation.

Is that not the key for tow bar? You use normal key to remove cover from passenger door to uncover lock for emergency access.

No wonder he thought u were bonkers.
EDIT:
SO you were saying you put this small key in to remove this plastic cover.
And then you can use the large key to open the door?
or maybe I misunderstood for amusement.

Ha, every day is a school day
I was told when I bought the car the small black key was for the door lock and the red one was for the towbar, obviously I've had no need to try it out or think otherwise.
Getting back to the question in the first post, if Beanie is correct then I can only presume his passenger door handle has been changed at some point?

Maybe the small end cover fell off, and someone has used one meant for the other doors.
Be wise for him to try and remove the cover (in the warm weather) and test the lock.
You squeeze top and bottom IIRC
