Hi Dan,
Haha...i'm not Portuguese. I'm anglo-brazilian! So i do speak portuguese. I also have a holiday home in Oporto. I've lived in many countries and for me, Portugal has definately the best quality of life of them all (climate, cost of living, security, etc).
Tavira is a very pleasant old town since the Romans. It's great to take the boat and cross the lagoon to the nearby beaches... 8)
