Is changing front wheel bearing a hard job?

The whirring noise coming from the front N/S wheel bearing is getting worse so I need to replace it. Is this a job I could carry out on my own? Has anyone here done it before? Would love to hear if anybody has any advice. Cheers

Hey,

It's quite an easy job, just make sure you have the right tools to get the hub nut off and on at the correct torque. (and a replacement one)

There's several youtube video's on how to do this:

And

The front ones are the easy ones to do. Smile

I followed the video above very easy to do if you have the correct tools I was lucky the hub was replaced a few years back as it was fitted with copper grease so it came off very easy I would say get the hub warm by driving and using brakes then have a go as everything is warm and hopefully should ease the removal

He probably is. I attempted mine a couple of weeks back and fell foul of the hub nut. Tried everything but couldn't get it to budge - even rented a torque gun from my local hire shop. Eventually had the car recovered to my local trusty indie (sounded and felt like the bearing was collapsing so I didn't want to drive it) and his torque gun had it straight off - much as I'd like to think I loosened it for him it's about having the right kit. Shame really as the rest of the job looked pretty straight forward

seems to be very reasonable rates for all that shiny new stuff. Just completed fitting a new front left hub assemble with new pads both sides. To fit all that first time round . Could take you about 5 hrs Shocked on that I also dismatleled the brake calipers got all the rust off the caliper pistons and got rid of all the old brake fluid in the chambers. Very satisfying afterwards. Dicovery 3 (Rimini Red)

Apologies for not reporting back. Yeah the price was very good delivered to Ireland from Paddock Spares.
I watched the video above from Atlantic British about 5 times before I touched a tool. I wrote down the various sizes and types of sockets e.g the 21mm 12 point socket needed for the brake caliper, then went through it step by step. Gave everything a blast of wd40 and left it sit for a while. I had a 2ft socket and a bit of steel pipe and everything came loose no problem. Took my time and gave everything g a good clean as I was going. Whole thing took about 5 hrs including tea! I then ran into a problem with one of the sets of brake pads see here http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic159374.html
All was good in the end. Next job is bushes 👍

front wheel bearing

I've got a noise from the front right wheel, happens on driving and braking. Thought it was brake pads, so replaced all front and back. Car dips slightly when the noise happens and yellow brake warning light comes on

Its booked in for service & MoT (in UK) next month, but thinking better to replace the bearings before driving across, don't want a breakdown and miss the ferry

am I thinking in the right area ?

thanks
