LR3 V8 - replace thermostat housing complete - how difficult
I have a coolant leak and yesterday did some investigation. I had the idea of using a black light to see where the coolant was leaking.
I checked the orange LR coolant and it is in the perfect wavelength for my 385nm light - it glows increibly brightly.
Anyway, having removed the engine cover, I could see coolant splattered all over the front of the block. In the end I traced the leak to the thermostat housing. There is a tiny (invisible to the eye) crack at the top of the housing where the small hose joins at the top. The LR housing PN is LR005631. I'd like to think I only need to replace the top piece but can't see it separately. I suspect that the right thing to do is to replace the entire housing.
Has anyone got experience of this job and any advice? I suppose replacing the entire housing is the right thing to do, although it looks quite involved.
Here's the housing with the leak. The compromise in the housing is where the small house joins at the top smack in the centre of the photo.

I replaced only the top section, for the same reason. Just check the thermostat as it is made up of separate parts.

LRO05631 the complete housing, I think it also includes the stat and temp sender is available from Rimmer Bros price
£101.29. https://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-LR005631. To fit you will need to get access to the bottom section that is attached to the top of the engine under the intake manifold.

Thanks. I've managed to find (I think) just the broken part (top part), which is complete with the thermostat. It should arrive tomorrow. If it is as described, and fits, it'll be quite a saving. Will update.PAGODA

Finally got the replacement part. Fitted it in about 10 mins. Ran her up, bled the little bit of air out of the system and so far so good.
For others in this position here's the PN for just the thermostat housing. It comes complete with the thermostat and o-ring.
$40 and 10 mins to fit, vs about $120 and a good few hours for the complete housing.
