[Wanted] 8 Inches of Picture Rail

In turning our box room into a nursery, we have removed some fitted wardrobes and now I'm desperately trying to find 8 inches of picture rail in this profile and size:

The supplier this image came from sells it, but in minimum lengths of 13 metres!! I phoned them up and they don't sell offcuts Sad

It's a long shot but I was wondering if anyone had anything similar knocking about in their shed stock anywhere? It's going to be painted over so finish or condition doesn't matter too much.

If by some miracle someone has a short length and could pop it in a jiffy bag, I'd happy cover the cost!!

You never know.. Thumbs Up

Does it matter if it hasn't got the groove along the top? I would guess the groove cannot be seen as the rail is likely to be above eye level.

If so you could start with a piece of 45x20 softwood and use a plane to achieve the same bottom/outer shape.

Are you in much of a hurry for it? I could probably produce something fairly close but not really going to have time in the workshop till after the BH.

Just how big is this room?

Option 1 : Go to a decent joiners shop (school or night school might also be a long shot) and ask them to copy. You will be able to evaluate the cost and bother of the piece against the 13m

Option 2 : Get a friend (construction professional) to blag a piece as a sample board from known supplier for a future project

Option 3 : Go to You Tube or a fibrous plaster manufacturer and ask them to show you how to make a mould then consider making yourself .....plaster or similar

Option 4 : Try local theatre ....scene maker, they are remarkable at copying

Option 5: Take off what is already there and start again with something similar

Finally it is probable none of these will be completely a perfect match, surely ONLY you (and the rest of the readers here ) will know. There is a saying that it won't be seen by the man on the galloping horse. When done have a beer! Whistle

Wow - thanks for all your offers of help and advice Bow down

Thanks for those who had a check in the depths of their garages! The supplier is WRP Timber Mouldings, I did ask for a sample but their samples are tiny.

The room is just a standard box room bedroom. I don't think it would be worth doing anything too complicated (i.e. it's not a main dining room or anything). I have to admit I'd not really considered trying to shape a short piece to fit. I'm going to find a short bit of planed timber and have a go. As CarlW said, you can't see the hanging groove from the bottom so if I can get the curve right it might work. I need to get it sorted and painted this weekend really as the carpet fitter is booked.

I can't find a 'standard' name for this profile (like they have Lambs Tongue and Ogee etc.). It's the original stuff from the 1930's! (mounted onto the lath and plaster!)

Cheers everyone Thumbs Up
