This has been discussed before...but for me, the D3/D4's rear every time. The originals, that the D5 is trying to imitate...which is silly to be honest.
For me, that plate style on the D3/4 doesn't work. Square every time. Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets! Member of Gloucestershire & Worcestershire 4x4 Response.

The D3/4 does, just, work with either but the square plate is the clear winner, looks right.
The D5 is clearly designed only for the long plate but it still looks odd to me. It's the contrast between that sweeping up curve in the bodywork and the lower right square corner on the plate. Just bad design to me.

A square no plate is just slightly to big for a D5, just tried one!
Could fit with a little trim but not sure if their is regulation on how much yellow bg must be above and below the correctly sized lettering.D4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

While strictly not legal could you not try a motorbike-sized plate? Are they not a little smaller the square car plates?Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets! pretty sure you can trim the plate ... must be something about margin, but with a personal reg no. you can end up with acres of yellow..

Square n° plate on the D4 looks just perfect. On the D5...well, looks !
Is there a chance that JLR designers forgot this important detail?

After following a few D5's over the past few weeks, all i can say is the end looks . Its all wrong, the whole back end needs redoing with the offset number plate being the worst bit. Given the rest of the changes why not just stick it in the middle, at least then it might have looked better.
Soory, but its going to be quite a while before the D5 grows on me, if ever.

Is it just me or do the rear lights look too small on the D5? (or the rear end too big!! )
It's the same with the RRS......

Likely to be having a D5 at some point in future and for me it'll be having a UK plate that goes on Euro imports.
The standard square plate and the 'lip' in the number plate area to rest of tailgate clash. The Euro plates are not as tall and slightly wider also so look much better IMO
