Marscolony's Disco 3 HSE 2009

Last Saturday I picked up a new member of the family who I'm hoping will provide many happy hours of motoring, transporting, tinkering and so forth.

It's my first Land Rover, my first 4x4, my first auto and many other firsts I'm sure.

So far I'm very pleased in general, though the fuel consumption is lower than I'm used to, it's a far more capable vehicle, so that's a fair trade off. I am going to have a read about remaps as that sounds like it might be interesting.

The first little job I've undertaken is removing the chrome wing mirror covers that came on the car!

Thanks for the recommendation @geoff. What sort of efficiency improvement can be expected from doing this (if anything?)

Or are you just recommending that generally Smile

I drove it to Birmingham and back today (about a 200 mile round trip). On starting it to leave for home, I got a dreaded chime and 'suspension fault' on the message screen Sad

I switched it off, left it a min and checked the suspension height looked normal from outside (it did). Then turned it back on and no error, so drove it home. Stopped on the way and switched off. On restarting, no error.

Should I be concerned? I haven't tried to move the suspension yet since, but will do so tomorrow most likely, just to see what happens. It all worked ok when I checked it on buying - I put it up, down, into crawl mode etc.. and it didn't give any issues then.

I have the car booked in for a general check up at my local independant, but not for a few weeks (first appointment they could give me). Are there any checks/tests etc I can do before then to troubleshoot or fix?

I am hoping to drive to Le Mans in it in just under a month, so would really like a healthy car for that!

@marscolony

Looks like a nice clean D3 there mate. Nice colour !

Did you have to look at many before you settled on this one?

Body coloured mirror caps would look good. Just fitted a genuine LR pair of upper covers to mine in Zermatt Silver trying to make it look like my first D3 (my first one is pictured in my gallery)

Black/Silver (supercharged?) LR badges look nice on Silver and are an easy thing to do (not so easy with steering wheel one though)

Hope you have many years of enjoyment and that it doesn't cost you toooo much down the line.

@sivsy thanks, it wasn't my first choice colour (would have preferred black or grey) but it seemed like a good one and I wasn't going to let colour get in the way. I managed to find it the day it came in to the dealer and there were others queueing up to get it. The colour is growing on me any way Smile

I didn't look at too many in person, but I read a lot, and looked at a heck of a lot of adverts.

The mirrors look much better back to black, though I might look at proper body colour caps too. I think the black gives a nice balance. since the whole of the rest of the car is silver. The adhesive used to stick the caps on has left marks, but I think they'll buff out.

More concerning is the suspension fault it's now complaining about. I was hoping for at least a week of trouble free motoring! Hopefully it's nothing major.

Was it a private sale or from a trader/dealer?

If the latter take it back to get them to investigate and fix.
If the former then you are probably on your own, with help from here and your indy.
You'll need any fault codes read and it would be advisable to read some other threads on the subject (there are 1 or 2 Shocked ) and follow suggestions/advice from them. Checking for leaks etc is relatively straight forward.
Thumbs Up

It was from a small dealer (not a LR dealer or anything, just a 4x4 specialist). I'm about to call them and see if they will pay to have it diagnosed to start with, or I'll just reject the car.

The dealer was really good. Offered to have it sent to my local indy and have it diagnosed/fixed, at their expense. I didn't have to quote the consumer rights act or anything. Unfortunately I now have to wait till they have an appointment.
