Weights at back of chassis...

Proberly an old question what is the purpose of the two swinging weights on the very back of the chassis and in some cases do they rock and touch the bumper inner casing?

They are harmonic dampers, to take out some noise, vibration or harshness.

They are meant to swing to absorb energy at whatever frequency the oiginal vibration occured.

On a road as smootha s a billiard table, I imagine you might just detect the difference if they were removed. Bearing in mind road like that don't exist in the UK, you can probably remove them with no noticable difference (apart from the 30 or 40 kg weight saving...) Thumbs Up
New gearbox & TC, 3 x front wheel bearings, belts changed, new oil pump, new battery, new rear prop, new front prop, new front diff, front arb refurbed, front cv boot kit, egr blank and BAS software patch, full rear suspension / drivelive rebuild, new front arms, LED trailer light fix, split charge.
Never had a 107, 90 or 127, but have had most of the rest!

Suggestion..

before attempting to take them off.
Trying tying them up with some string (a bit of D3 bondage !)
you'll then be able to see if there is any difference.

mine are there - left to dangle & swing...Land Rover Chassis engineers know far more than me

This hi-tech fix isn't anything "new"
Disco 1's had a huge weight on top of the gearbox - that were attached with weird metal & rubber mounts (that looked like an original Mini exhaust mounting part...my D1's broke off)
In the various D2's I had (which I thought were good) I never found any - but Im sure someone will elaborate there were some.
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.
