Drove one for the first time today...
My friend got his yesterday (3L V6 HSE) and I had a drive today....
Purely my thoughts after a good rummage about, and a short 20 mile run......
Interior: Build quality is excellent, and a big step up from the D4....top notch materials which are nice to the touch, and a much enhanced feeling of overall quality, not quite RR but not far off. Excellent storage ( with some nice touches, like the sliding cup holders that reveal a deeper storage area underneath.
Fronts seats are very supportive and comfortable, middle row leg room was very good.
The electric folding rear seats (using the App or the buttons) were a nice touch, and I can imagine would be very useful, as was the electric towbar. Being able to start the car and adjust the interior temperature from indoors using the App was a nice feature I thought.
Driving: Really nice to drive, and it felt a lot livelier (and lighter) on the road, hiding it's bulk very well. The gearbox reacts very quickly and smoothly.....the car had only 350 miles on the clock so I would imagine it will improve even further when the engine "loosens up"
It handled very well on a quickish B-road, with a lot less roll and cornered very positively, feeling planted. I was a bit disappointed in how it dealt with broken surfaces though, transmitting more of a "shudder" into the cabin than I was expecting.
I know it's designed for motorway driving, but don't forget to cancel "Lane assist" (or whatever LR call it) once you leave the motorway as it was a deeply unpleasant, and slightly unnerving experience on a country road
Camera quality was very good, and although I didn't delve into the Sat nav and infotainment system too much, it seemed to be very good also, and I'm sure after a bit of familiarisation, intuitive....a big step forward.
Overall: I really liked it, so a big thumbs-up from me....I was far more impressed than I expected to be....(secondary ride aside), and having perhaps unjustly rejected it as a possibility next time round, I'd have to say it's now on the list....I just need to hope second hand values plummet quickly in the next couple of years

I'm sure it's probably in the menu somewhere, but while rooting around later I found a couple of buttons under the dash to the right of the steering column....I'm pretty sure one of them looked like the Lane assist button.....I wasn't pressing it just in case it wasn't "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

There's 2 lane departure systems, the basic system which is standard is "lane departure warning" which gives you a vibration through the steering wheel when you cross the white lines, you can turn this off but not change sensitivity. The second system which is a cost option on some specs is "lane keep assist" which helps to keep you in the lane by applying steering correction, this can be quiet a shock first few times it occurs and sensitivity can be adjusted.
