Battery Issue

Hi All
When I was looking up my fault codes last week using the IID Tool I noticed the battery was only showing just over 12 volts. I plugged my C-Tek tester in and got a red light so put battery on charge. Battery charged in about 4 hours so closed the bonnet, job done. Whilst in the garage yesterday I noticed the plastic battery cover sitting on the bench as I hadn't re-fitted it. This prompted me to try the battery tester again and it showed amber this time. Put the battery on charge again and when I went to remove the charger this morning I noticed what looks like the battery breather plug still fitted.

The previous owner invoices show an exchange alternator was fitted in Nov 2015 and a new battery in Jan 2016.

So the question is if I remove the plug will anything bad happen and has the plug caused any damage to the battery having been left in for 16 months after battery installation?
Car has no charging warning lights and never not started.

Remove the plug and fit the vent pipe. The battery must be allowed to breath otherwise pressure will build in and could cause the casing to crack.
 De-Tango
V8 Brakes
EGRs blanked
Running boards
3 flash indicators and clock on dash
Blingy grille...

Didn't realise there is meant to be a vent pipe! I'll have to check that there is one.

Could be another vent on the opposite side of that battery.

I think there is another vent on the other side of the battery and it is not plugged but there is not a vent pipe fitted.

have a look between the battery and fusebox to see if there is a squashed pipe! (in exits in the wheel arch to get any acid and fumes out)

CTEK indicators can be a little alarmist. I wouldn't worry about an orange indicator

Cheers Pete, I'll look for the pipe and monitor the battery situation. Will check to see if I have the Denso alternator fitted at the weekend.
