Heated windshield

Those of you who have heated windshield have you noticed that some of the wires molded in the glass does not work? Today was first morning (temperature was -2C) when I needed the heating function. It worked fine but I noticed that about 6-7 wires were not working. They were all across the windshield not all in a row. Is this normal and acceptable?

mmm will have to wait a while to test in the UK but I would guess that it is normal. They probably test them at manufacture and have a max number of elements fail rate before rejecting a screen.

A bit like the dead pixels on an LCD display.

Arsi,

Simon might be correct, but I would not be happy with that level of drop out.

And combined with the fact that that you are in Finland which must be getting pretty cold by this time of the year.

I would have a good complain to the dealer that you expect the screen totally clear in frosty conditions.

The only problem of course is that if they do agree to change the screen, I allways feel that bonded replacment screens never quite seem as good as the original to me!!

Let us know what the dealer tells you.

Wrong. In Finland we still have quite warm, +8 C degrees still today. Only once has there been snow raining during Autumn.

Have had the heated front screen in cars dating back to early Ford's!!, through to the TD5ES - my experience was that all elements worked when new but often after a year or two, the odd element would stop working, I assume almost like a fuse wire burning out. There's nothing in the LR manual advising that you shoudl not expect them all to work, so you are entitled to hae it fully functioning - just claim it as a warranty repair Wink

I asked my dealer about this and they said that in theory there should not be any broken wires and there is no mention in any LR documentation of this. They were willing to change the windscreen but I did not wanted to do that yet. I may do that after the first winter to see how the screen actually behaves.

Mine too!

I doubt that mine is an element fault, but only half of my windscreen heats up! The drivers side works fine, but not a thing happens on the passenger side! Very puzzling. Anybody know where the connectors are so that I can check? Java Black

Pull off the small plastic cover that says Airbag on it, remove the screw and gently pull the cover off

NO NO NO!!! its not in the airbag cover!! Its under the plastic shroud that is OUTSIDE the lower edge of the windscreen, behind the bonnet, with the wipers sticking through it. I think its a bonnet off job to remove it to get to the plugs.

Thats unusual. Have you chipped the screen recently, or some other knock that may have stressed it? I hope your roof rack has not overstressed the roof Wink

I have a few not working on the Disco, on my Mini it's a similar situation.

This picture was taken yesterday (-8C) after 30s of heating. You can see the vertical streaks that are not warming.

This is only drivers side (LHD). Passenger side looks similar.
