Remove resonator on v8

Hi all,has anyone removed the central resonator on a v8? I have 2 questions

1. How loud would it be

2. Was it replaced with 2 pipes, a H pipe for a X pipe.

I want mine to sound like a v8 not a muted Nissan micra.

Thanks Paul

If you had LPG and you removed the innards of the cats, you would have no mot issues, a few more geegees and a nicer sound.

Hi,

It's not done yet, but planning to do it rather soon.
After some research I'm planning to get it replaced with a X pipe, as far as I have found, that would produce a nice v8 sound rather than the calm and regular sound.

I'll probably straightpipe and x-pipe it both to see which is better. You could do the same, just temporarily clamp it on while testing.

Paul
I think you need to volunteer and get it done, then tell us what it's like with a nice before and after sound clip. Just leave the tail pipes original so it looks stock.

I will be the forum guinea pig. I have just got to get it on the ramps at a local exhaust fabrication shop when I get the time.

I am going for straight pipes as I want the lumpy single sided idle (classic v8 )

Yes all will look stock, I am not a fan of pipes out of the back.

I will report back once all is complete.

When changing my rear diff I started up the car with the exhaust removed and only the cats in place, it was supprisingly quiet!
I would love to remove the centre box, I figured removing the other one though? What is stopping me is any insurance issues, lets face it nothing says I like sporty cars/driving more than removing silencers!

I am tempted to fit straight tube inside the box so it still looks std?

What do each of the boxes do, the hydro formed one and the standard silencer box type?

I had assumed the standard one was the one to remove (and much easier) but everyone else seems to choose the first one?

The bigger one (hydro formed) is a resonator. Regulates the sound and makes it more civil.
The other is a muffler for higher pitch sounds. The two at the rear should muffle lower sounds.

(At least that's what I've found when searching for that same question myself)
