when previous D4 was stolen, amongst many other things stowed in it I lost a Ring RAC900. now I have a new beast I want/need a new one but I found the Ring one a bit awkward in that it had a stupidly long airline and a stupidly short power lead ... so I could pump things up miles from the battery but couldn't read the pressure gauge nor turn the thing off.
can anyone suggest a good alternative that has long power lead / short airline ?
cheers..
Dean

Hi Dean. I've got the ring RAC600 and it's got a long power lead and short airline. Works great around the D3.
The Ring 900 has the battery lead connection crocodile clips. Gauge on Inflate connection
Ive used it in anger with a whole bunch of wheels from flat as pancake to full over 40 lb pressure.
The hose is good quality with kink free hose & heavy brass connectors.
Mines been lent out & come back without issues.
The smaller Ring700 has a cigar plug connection which blows the D3 fuse - I tried one & returned to Amazon I realise it's a handier size -.but for how long operational using larger vehicle fuse ?
The 600 I haven't tried. I've stayed away from the plastic boxed variety.
Michelin brand ones are pretty ropey. Fuse blowers.
Ditto Halfrauds.
Watch out at Aldi / LIDL occasional offerings spoken about on here.
Dont know just where Ring brand ones are made but seem OK - even comparing to our local compressed air place offerings here in Halifax that sells Copco.
Mine was intentionally bought for my XK tyres as it's parked up most of the year - these wheels won't roll on flat tyres.
The Ring 900 good buy. Amazon seems cheapest.BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.
yes ... I stand corrected, gauge was at the tyre end (been without it so long I'd obviously mis-remembered)
I'll try and find somewhere that sells a range of them and try and compare in the flesh, as it were.
Got the previous one from Costco, not absolute cheapest but not far off and came next day..
Dean

Never actually parted with the dosh ... just steal SWMBO's when I go anywhere beyond a few miles. Her VX Antara doesn't have a spare, just an air-pump with a canister of gloop for when a puncture needs to be dealt with.

I got the RAC900 last night, yet to use it.. but from what I gather the pump has to go off to check the pressure - but you can only turn it off a the pump? This seems a pain that the switch is at the pump especially when doing a trailer for example.2010 Disco 4 HSE

I've got the RAC900, and yes you need to turn it off to get an accurate pressure reading.
Having said that, it does register a pressure whilst pumping, and I find mine over reads by about 2-3 PSI whilst running, so it's not too bad, at least you can tell when you are about there.
But I never trust the built in gauge anyway, so always cross check with a separate gauge. I tend to put a little extra in, then drop it down using my stand alone gauge.
Have to say that the built in gauge is not usually that far out - mine under-reads by a couple of PSI, if that.

Yes, my Viair 400p is the same.
I use the same technique. Overfill the tyre by a few PSI, then back it off to the correct reading.
I find that once you are used to it, its easy to use.
