Discovery 4 Front Caliper Pins. Which is which
I removed my caliper and didn't pay attention to the pins. One pin has a rubber grommet while the other does not. Which is the upper and which is the lower?

I thought they both did. You could always take one out the other side?Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Yep, one has the rubber bit but for the life of me I cannot remember which one as I just put them back from where they came. Popping a pin from the other caliper takes no time.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Good point but then I assuming I put them back the right way last time lol. My service manual doesn't mention the pin difference and and the diagrams don't show the grommet either. weird.

In my D4 it was the upper pin that had the rubber grommet thingy.

Better check that again I found it in the service manual. Rubber grommet pin goes on the bottom. There is a warning..

Upper pin is a regular looking caliper pin while the bottom pin has a notch where a rubber grommet sits. The rubber grommet can degrade and be sure to use a rubber compatible grease/silicon lube.

In my car the pins with the rubber on were mounted in the upper position so I put the new ones back in the same position as I couldn´t find anything about it in the workshop manual. I haven´t had any problems but next time wheels are off I will move the pins.

I honestly don't know if it makes a difference at all. Considering even the service manual pictures don't show the difference in the pins.
