Capable yes, practical I think they could've put a bit more effort in.

Congratulations on your good fortune to be able to afford one and it is great to be modest with it too Thumbs Up

I would agree it is capable, but would argue it is less practical.

There is the issue of the lowered second row seat base making long journeys uncomfortable, I also couldn't get comfortable in the drivers seat, there is less boot space and the split tailgate has gone to be replaced by a gimmick.

Also, whilst beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I consider the entire exterior design to be awful.

But we are all different, so glad you are pleased.

If the gear I currently carry in the D4 won't fit in the D5 it's definitely not as practical for me! Laughing

I too can afford a D5 as a cash buyer but chose not to. I prefer the practicality of my 12 year old D3 and my wife loves her Yeti. Thumbs Up

Thing is, I do t recap, the D4 creating this kind of attitude, I know it's only a facelift D3, but there was no arrogance by those who had them first Confused

Simliar on other Marques forums, new models didn't create this kind of issue ?

I apologise to all.

For the record it was a direct copy of a twitter post, not something I said.

Again apologies

Peter I didn't think it was that offensive, you have a new car and are obviously very pleased with, there wasn't a need to take it down for me.

I just don't recall the devide being caused when other models came out, not even the sport, just goes to show the passion for the 3&4, in honesty, I was (still am a proper Landrover man) having had countless series , lightweights, RRC and at the time the D3 came out a Defener which I still own .......

... I thought the back of the 3 looked like a transit, many years later here I am Rolling with laughter

Opinions change Thumbs Up

I've not been on here for some time, mostly because I fool heartedly PX'd my D3 for a Disco Sport which had some niggles but mostly because I was bored with the D3. In my opinion and experience the DS is NO Discovery, think "Permagrin". Something I learnt on this forum very many moons ago as well as SWMBO.......

Beanie, you have hit the the nail on the head. LR Owners are by enlarge pretty passionate about their vehicles and it's distinct look. The 4 was for all intents a D3, it looked like one and pretty much drove like one. The later ones were vastly improved but they didn't divide quite like the D5 and indeed gave us D3 owners something extra / better from the parts bin that was shiny to adorn our outdated vehicles with.

The New Discovery... its distinctive, I drove back from Heathrow to day to Yorkshire and saw multiple on the opposite carriageways. The HUGE billboards exiting T5 announced its presence and I could tell it apart from a Disco Sport instantly, from the front it is a very good looking car, the sides are big, different and just dying to show off those car park dings.....

The rear, I've got to say after seeing them on the road,

Wait for it......... over a month or so, I could live with that, especially as it's attached to the car which in my eyes is an affordable Range Rover ! I admire the nod to the previous Marques, it's bold that's for sure.

It will grow on even the most ardent critics I am sure.
