Credit where credit is due to the disco

I've been lucky enough to own some high ish end cars in my time. Some have been sport saloons, some 4x4's. and I currently own a reasonable high end sports saloon. After buying the mrs a convertible last summer and regretting it due to it being far to small for the family I bit the bullet and got the disco a few months ago. We've had Range Rover sports and vogues in the past and due to the fact I didn't want another car that was £500+ a year to tax I was lucky enough to pick up a 55 plate with all the facelift bits done already.

After a long drive out with the family today I can honestly say I love this car. It just drives lovely! It's not brand spanking new but it feels it even after 130,000 miles. I really don't remember the Range Rover sport driving this well when we had it and that was nearly new.

Just thought I'd put in my view. Think it's the best 4x4 we've owned ( first discovery ) and it's probably the oldest. Thumbs Up

I even said to the wife I might think about selling my pride and joy and to buy a newer one.

That sounds like a great result then! Thumbs Up

Roughly whereabouts are you in Hertfordshire (I grew up around Knebworth, Stevenage and Hitchin) before moving to deepest, darkest, Cornwall around 25 years ago Shocked

Right on the doorstep then.

So what's this interesting sounding car that you'd consider swapping for a D3/4 then?

Actually, don't answer that, it sounds like I'm casing the joint! Laughing

Anyway, glad the new one's gone well and hope you get to justify one for yourself too Thumbs Up

To be honest. It's only the fact the d3 was for the wife smoking around dropping kids off here there n everywhere and doing short journeys I went for the tdv6. I would've rather the v8 but would be a killer on fuel for what it's used for.

I might see if I can sort a test drive in a d4. I've still got the mrs convertible sitting on the drive waiting for the sunshine to sell it. May be able to scrape enough money together by selling that and the d3 to get a d4?? Thumbs Up

The 3.0 ltr is still TDV6 diesel and approx same fuel consumption as the older 2.7
Unless you go from manual 2.7 to auto 3.0 which for me worked out about 3-4,mpg difference on average.

So what's the big difference in the engine in the d4 diesel? Has it got a lot more grunt? Not so bothered about the economy but would be nice to have some extra torque.

Say compare a mapped and de cated d3 vs a standard d4. Is there a lot in it?

2.7 is 170 bhp 3.0 l is 246 and later models 256
From memory

also 3.0l is twin turbo much more responsive power delivery all round chalk and cheese really. But thats not knocking the 2.7 it does its job very well

The D3 is 197bhp and will remap to about 240 IIRC. Google BAS or Alive to see what output they are claiming.
