Do you get a marked improvement on the D3 as the only thing my wife didn't like about the Disco on the test drive was that she felt it took a while to stop.

60mph to 0 is 121ft which is pretty good for a 2.75 tonne motor in my book 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I think that's good and all of the press reports seem to say that the brakes feel weak until you really need them and then they are great. I just wonder if the bigger brakes will make the feel more positive in the early stages of braking and light application?

Having driven a D3 for 2 years I've never felt that it's brakes have been weak or needed more stopping power ...but hey ho 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I've never felt that the brakes were too weak - I have however noticed that the amount of leg pressure required to stop the car varies quite a bit from day to day. I assume this is down to the amount of brake dust/mud/water and other general crud that waxes and wanes on the pads and discs. My brake pedal also sticks slightly at the top, so sometimes a gentle dab get's ignored and I have to press harder to get past it.
Give yourself a treat one day and see how awesome the stopping power of this car really is. Find a totally empty, straight, wet (to save you some rubber ) centre lane of a multi-lane road one day. Get yourself up to 40MPH, and then whilst steering straight, check one last time for anyone around that might not appreciate it and then pull up and hold up the Parking brake switch. It'll start bonging to warn you that you're doing something strange - ignore that for now. Release when you either
a) get startled by the number of G's you're pulling whilst remaining in a straight line or
b) when you get to about five MPH. (Below this speed the actual rear parking brakes engage - they cause enough problems, let's not risk that eh?)
The parking switch emulates the same reponse that slamming your foot hard on the brake invokes - power assisted ABS/DSC controlled stop (the rear parking shoes don't come into play at all until the car is almost stationary). By the way, in spite of the fact that the tyre/brake/road/grip at each corner is always slightly different, the car has only ever halted in a beautifully straight line to the electronics and the bods that designed them, I assume the cars yaw sensor is being utilised.
Obviously, the normal caveats apply - this is your decision to try, and I can't be held responsible for accidents etc etc and for peace of mind why not try it first at 20MPH instead of 40?
I haven't tried this next bit because the tyres are expensive, but I'm led to believe that the LR test drivers on a runway pull up the switch when at top speed...
For myself, I have never ever been happy to drive a car until I've discovered how it handles during emergency braking on both wet and dry roads. I have been extremely pleased with the reactions of my Grin Transporter Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

I think some of the chaps on here were lucky enough to get a ride with a test driver in a RRS V8 Supercharged, on a test track and experienced the emergency park brake application at at top speed.
I seem to remember one of them commenting that their eyes bled for days afterwards.

Must say the brake pedal on my side was a bit spongy at times 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
