Xyz switch ?????

Fairly new to the discovery 3 world and after reading through some of the previous posts have come to realise that it's something to do with the xyz switch so I know this topic has already been covered however would just like a separate opinion
Symptoms are:
No reverse lights
"Hunts" between 250-1000 rpm when pulling up to traffic lights etc
No parking sensors
Slow gear indicator on the dash
Also unless I'm doing something wrong it doesn't go into low ratio

No warning light coming on but does come up on the display that there is a parking system fault, also tried the manual reset which didn't work either..
