Do I Or Don't I? A newbies question

Hello All - I am new to this forum, but not new to LR having run one disco way back.

Now I am out of company car land and only do local mileage I am considering purchasing a D3 HSE or SE.

I have a budget of £12k, and am considering circa 2007/8 with mileage of 70,000 plus.

I have seen a fair few on car websites, some tidier than others and aside from cam and timing belts want to know what I really should be looking out for in a 2nd hand disco (I have read some horror stories and am very keen to avoid a starring role in one).

Any advise (including take your £12k and run you fool) gratefully received.

Cheers in advance

There's a lot to be said for buying a known one from a forum member. They come up quite regularly.

2007 is the danger year for the cam belt tensioner failing and taking out the engine so personally I'd avoid that model year altogether. If you do get one in the affected VIN range, get the modification done before you drive it, factor that into the price.

Next would be a good warranty from someone like warranty direct to avoid big bills if you have any catastrophic fail.

Finally, just make sure everything works, air suspension should be quick to raise/lower, the electric handbrake should work with no odd screeches, air-con needs to blow nice and cold, no warning lights on the dash.

Don't be fobbed off by anything not working as lots of things are expensive to fix. A good documented service history would be a must for me.

They are great cars but don't kid yourself it will be cheap to own, run and maintain one Thumbs Up

Don't rule out a well maintained early S model. Some of them have everything the later supposedly higher spec models have and none of the engine issues. Wink
