Strange issue....
two days ago I had this DTCs
Today I checked the fuel filter, opened the small discharge valve, switch on the ignition (not the engine), collected the fuel in a glass, but no water inside...

Ive had this one a few times - conventional advice is a faulty housing, however I checked mine out with a multimeter and the potential bridge circuit seemed fine.
I fixed mine by removing the sensor and giving a good clean. I changed the fuel filter, but made sure the connecting pin in the housing was clean - the filter body forms part of the circuit.
Then I cleaned up the sensor connector (to the housing) and the overall connector for the fuel filter to the main wiring loom. Use Electrical contact cleaner for all connections
The 'water in fuel error' took a few days to disappear even after that.

Thanks mates
I'll keep you informed.....
Just a question, is the "Water in fuel" DTC always followed by "Restricted performance" limp mode?Discovery 5 tdv6 HSE Corris Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

I had same code week ago, changed whole assembly with sensor and new filter, so far so good. Seemed silly not to do it as so many people say to.

water in Fuel error prompts the restricted performance message.
Personally on my D4 most faults have been caused by poor electrical connections. Changing the whole housing is easier and is the usual Dealer approach as they are not that bothered with diagnosis when its someone elses money.MY2010 D4 3.0 TDV6 HSE Stornaway grey

Thank you again mates,
Through your answers and the "study" of the Workshop Manual I realized that the DTC P2264-00 (28 )is relative to the failure/issue of the "electric circuit" of the sensor and not to the effective presence of water in the fuel.
In fact, this latter case is indicated by DTC P2269-68Discovery 5 tdv6 HSE Corris Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

Short report:
The day that I checked the presence of water, I cleaned with contacts cleaner all the electrical connectors....
