Roof Tent and Kayaks

Good evening folks.

Just wondering if anyone has ever had a roof tent and a kayak on their rack? Is it even possible?

From what I've seen the roof tents take up the full width of the rack so a half and half is not possible. But is there any that only take up half of the rack, leaving the other half for a couple of kayaks.

I think I may have to come to terms with the fact that I may have to settle for a normal tent but hoping someone may have seen something to help me!

Get a Maggi and put the kayak on the top of that.

Thanks for all the replies. Gives me alot to think about.

Had a look at the Oz tent and looks good but seem to need a large footprint.

Wish I could afford a Maggi - that looks a good set up.

And the overcamp seems a good option. I'll have to check out the dimensions.

Those with a standard roof tent - is it at all possible to strap anything down on top of it? Or would this damage it?

Thanks again for the replies.

What rack are you using Dave?
Possible to get some brackets made so that the kayak doesn't actually sit on the tent?

I'm sure you could stick a kayak on top of a std size RT, they are only around 30cm high or so when folded and you could then strap a kayak on top.

Know anybody local to you who has a RT, then try it out to see if it'll work - adding some kind of bracket to your rack could also help Thumbs Up

Will be selling my Maggi at the end of this season, and it's the extreme, so can have weight on the top of it. Whistle Whistle
