EGR & Escaping gas

So I think I have escaping gases from the EGR but only under load? How do I know this because I have a whooshing noise that I thought was a tube hose but by chance I had the bonnet open and started the engine and saw a puff of smoke coming from the NS engine bay. however went away quickly so I suppose it is still there just clear smoke.

So is this possible? Can gasses escape from the EGR? I though they usually fail rather than leak gasses and can this be the whooshing noise that I can hear (only under load when driving).

Answers on a postcard!!

PS no error message etc!!! Although I do have a BT IID tool!

I wouldnt have thought egr leak would make a whooshing noise but the intercooler hose being split or starting to fail certainly would, not sure on the hose routing on a D4?
Might be worth trying to find a local garage with a smoke testing machine.

Thanks.

Does anyone have a schematic of the exhaust system - especially at the front end inc turbos?

Do 3.0 have a cross over pipe and can EGR's be blanked (2012)?

Might pay to google the engine and look at the images or do the same on ebay.

As I am in the process of replacing egr valves Just now I can tell you they are a PITA to access. D3 2,7 is a walk in the park in comparison. If egr is shut it is possible to re-program software so that they are no longer in use. And then the best is to leave them in there. This Would by far be the easiest and Cheapest way to do it. If they are stuck open It is also possible to drive the valves through diagnostic, it might work getting them to shut. New valves has a real hefty price at 2500 to 3000 £ for both .
