Yes, mine was like the top image, popped the black cap off and a white plug was there but solid/not passing air. Put a paperclip through the foam plug and could hear the air escape ! The Garage has now just snipped off the old one without putting anything in its place.

Just got the D4 back again after garage fitted second recon diff.
It still feels wrong(and noisy) , so I'll be underneath tonight to check the label, can just about get to it with a phone camera with suspension on full lift.
With the incorrect - 3.21 - diff, effectively they turned my car into a Front Wheel Drive D4, which was 'Dragging' the back wheels, I actually had Torque Steer on take-off.
Now it feels totally different, but still sluggish. I am wondering whether they have fitted the 3.73 diff from the Petrol RRS/D3, effectively changing the car to Rear Wheel Drive, as the rear diff now has the lions share of the revs.
If this is the case, I will start proceedings against the garage. Not naming it yet, but I will.
It is so frustrating that the people with the correct tools and supposedly experience can make such a pigs ear of a simple job. Especially as we, as non professionals (majority of us i guess), would be capable of this if we have the space, time and tools to hand !
do we know date at which the breathers were sorted ? I'll be having a look at mine when rain stops..

OK, I've been underneath tonight, they have indeed put another diff on the car. I was hoping to read the label with my phonecam, however the whole diff is caked in thick black paint, including label, filler plug, breather union, all blanking plugs, offside drive shaft support tube, the lot , all painted in what could be smooth hammerite.
So, none the wiser on the ratio unless I can scrape the black paint off the paper label.
The paint around the thread of the filler plug is unbroken, so have they just left the oil in there ? I cannot believe a reputable recon gearbox supplier would fill the unit with oil and then coat the whole thing in thick gooey paint before shipping, and cover the label up which is crucial to identify the unit's internal spec !
The garage has kindly left the breather pipe totally disconnected at the Diff end, so open to the elements.
If I were a suspicious person, which incidentally I am, I would guess that they have sourced a second hand diff from a tat yard and just stuck in on in the hope that it would be correct and serviceable.
AND it makes a whining noise all the time !
Next step, Trading standards/and or small claims court. I'll bite the bullet and go to Guy Salmon so they can laugh at me for going for the cheapest independent garage and expecting a professional job. That's probably unfair to most reputable LR indy specialists, but I was stupid enough to trust the job to a NON-LR Indy garage thinking 'how hard can it be ?'
I'm going for consequential loss, Hopefully get said garage to cough up for a proper repair with OEM kit.
They will be named and shamed when its over.
I must add Guy Salmon has always been fantastic (but expensive - they did my cambelt service last year), so I do trust them and I'm sure they will provide impartial advice.

if the TSB was Late 09 then I suspect not long after that, so some 2010 MY had old, some had new.
Sorry you're having such a crap time Pigscovery, but thank you for sharing and highlighting the potential cause to us on hear. Hopefully there's karma in the world and everything will get sorted for you without too much more hassle buddy LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.
Hi Pigscovery, I am having the same noise on my 2009 disco 4, getting worse by the week, trying to source and confirm front diff ratio, not even my local LR dealer can confirm, which is worrying! I have read your posts with much interest and was wondering where you have got to currently? Did you go to your LR dealer and get all sorted? If so what was the diff ratio in end? If you were ever able to find out from them, and have all your issues been sorted now you have been there? Hopefully so!
