Hi,
Had success by changing my oil pump last weekend. Everything seems to work fine, after working my way through to Timing belt, Crankshaft, alternator and starter motor,,,,,,...... So far, so good.
Only left over is a kind of a "parts quiz" I would wanted YOU to join....
Who ever comes up with so solution gets a virtual beer...

Hi Mikey , and others.
Thank You for your reply.
I understood the part as an heat shield as well. And because it's a heat shield, but I simply didn't remember where I took it from I am regarding it as necessary to put it back where it came from.
As You might remember, I did my oil pump the week before. So it must come from somewhere from the starter / alternator side/area of the motor.
I tried to recall it and figure out where to put it...but until now I didn't worked out....
Can You help out?TDV6MY07-automatic-LHD-noDPF-iidbt-ffrrMod

I'll be in Lech for two weeks next February if you're still waiting for help then!
I could possibly be in Lech aswell. We could have a chat and a beer @ "rudalpe" than. Hope there's going to be enough snow until the weeks time.TDV6MY07-automatic-LHD-noDPF-iidbt-ffrrMod

Hello!
First post on the forum, but long time lurker here
I was in the exact situation as Marland, after doing the belts and putting all tools back in their place found the little heat shield lying on the floor.
Only had a vague recollection of it sitting in the alternator/starter motor area, but couldnt even remember if I took it off from underneath or from the top.
This is how I got it back in place:
Remove air pipe between filter box and the junction beside the coolant reservoir. Cover this last opening against leaves and grit entering. I used a rubber glove.
Remove fan.
Now you can get your left hand in along the engine above the alternator. Watch off, glove off. It is tight, but you can now feel around with your palm facing up. I put my computer on top of the engine to look at the pictures while fiddling and getting the feel of the bits down there. Alternatively just close your eyes, you're working blind anyway.
Locate the small bolt/pin #1 in the picture
A litte more to the left is a small locating peg #2
Along the ridge of the heat shield is a threaded hole. #3
I took the small bolt from the heat shield and tested in this hole to make sure I had the correct hole. Unscrew it.
Now take the shield in your palm, inside up, bolt hole to the left. Locate locating peg and the hole in the shield and manouvre it into place. In my experience, it it falls out it isn't correctly positioned, if it sticks in place, it is correct. Hand out, bolt in hand, in again and thread bolt. I couldn't torque the bolt up properly as I could only fit a very small ratchet in there.
This is how it should look like:
Super easy with the alternator out, but doable with the alternator in situ.
Sorry for the longish text, but I wrote it like I would have liked to read it myself, spoon feeding style
