Clunk from front suspension - MOT fail?
I've got a slight clunk from front when I brake from slow speed. I'm assuming it's the lower suspension arm bushes which I will get round to sorting eventually but just wondering if its likely to be a MOT fail or just an advisory. It's due for MOT on Friday.
My wife's Saab has had a clunk for years which has never been picked up by the MOT tester even when I have asked him to have a good check around the area to find the source.

I would suspect if the play is enough it will be a fail. If lucky a advisory. Mine has has advisories for the lower arm before.

I had a rear picked up on my previous MOT as a fail. Didn't even realise it was worn as no noise etc. It just had excessive play.
I would guess if it's loud enough to hear, it's probably going to fail.

I've had a clunk on the front nearside for as long as I've had the car, it happens on speed bumps mostly. In that time it's gone through 3 MOTs and had 2 or 3 wishbones replaced (can't remember which corners) but the clunk itself hasn't been sorted or caused an MOT fail, despite my asking for them to look for it. So a clunk doesn't necessarily mean test failure, although obviously it's a good idea to identify the problem!

I had a clunk a short while after replacing the lower arms on my D3. When it went in for it's MOT I pointed this clunk out to the garage and asked them to look for any problem. They took it for a test drive and couldn't even hear the clunk! Not surprising, as my Blackview recorded the mechanic holding a long conversation on his mobile.
Needless to say, it passed the MOT. Took it to my reliable indie who immediately diagnosed anti roll bar bushes. All replaced at £67.00 all in. 2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE
