Yet Another EPB issue

I've spend ages reading the many post about the EPB yet still need some thoughts and advice.

My EPB will only release if I have my foot on the footbrake. I have the dash warning that the Automatic Release isn't working and the amber warning light. Code wise I have C1 A41-01 Clutch Pedal Sensor circuit which I assume is why the auto release won't work. I also tried the procedure to disable the EPB from coming on when the key is removed but that didn't work.

I have no dash issues with the gear numbers or with PDC ,,,, I tried the XY sensor recalibration anyway but when I reversed the R came up straight away but no matter how far I went it never bleeped. I've done the EPB adjustment too. Don't seem to have any clutch slipping issues.

I've read about the sensor reacting to clutch slip and I wonder if given the poor take off performance issues I had if the last owner has been heavy on the clutch to get out junctions etc.

Is there a way to test or reset the sensor on the clutch pedal ?

I'm guessing the most likely point of failure will be around the module as its more exposed. I hate wiring faults as they usually baffle me ...is there a common or likely point of failure ? or diy way to trace the fault ?

Is the EPB module within the actuator at the back ? The wiring plug onto the actuator seems ok though to add to my confusion there is a multi-plug coming out the harness there that goes no where and looks capped .

I've read in other posts about water ingress issues at the connector at the f/n/s wheel arch and the LR bulletin. Oddly when I was driving the other day (dry day) warning lights came on indication air suspension issues along with a message about special features not available. Stopped for fuel and these warnings went away.

I also notice that my clutch pedal bites very very high but isn't slipping and wonder if thats relevant to the sensor issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The EPB module is the whole black box and cables

Clutch bite point is nothing to do with the sensor fault

Struggling to make sense of another point , according to the handbook the epb will only release with pressure on the clutch pedal for manuals or footbrake for autos ,,,, mines a manual but won't release without depressing the brake. Loss of the auto release function doesn't bother me but as I intent to tow with this disco I can't be dancing about the brake pedal and trying to catch the clutch !

I had the f/n/s wheel arch off but mines obviously a later 56 plate as the connectors aren't there. I'll have a hunt for the connectors which if I've read things right are by the n/s/r arch and suspension compressor.

It doesn't auto release as the EPB module doesn't know where the clutch pedal is...

Thanks Mikey I appreciate your help. I assume that as it doesn't know where the clutch is its then looking for the brake pedal position before it'll release. Hopefully a bit of continuity testing tomorrow will get me somewhere.

Well I'm a happy boy .... 3rd wire tested between the clutch pedal senson and connecter at the rear arch failed for continuity. Broken wire found 2 inches away, patched in and auto release sorted. Only minor gripe now is that even following the instructions in the handbook I can't disable the epb from applying automatically when the ignition key comes out.

The epb can be heard from within the cab on application or release ..... I assume thats whirr is pretty normal ?

Hold down the EPB switch as you remove the ignition key = no EPB. Are those the handbook instructions you read.

Andi.

My EPB always always comes on even when the switch is depressed whilst the key is removed.
