Thanks for sharing, good read.

Makes me love my 3 that much more... Mr. Green I mean, the new one seems so capable but why does it look like what it does? Big Cry

To achieve the volumes that they want they've got to be able to appeal to a much broader and less specialist market than most of us lot!

If Land Rover can build something whose less distinctive style doesn't frighten off the average conservative VW / BMW / Audi / Volvo driver and then they can clinch the deal with the promise of genuine off road credibility (that they may never use) then their task is done Thumbs Up

I think that the average conservative VW/BMW/AUDI/VOLVO will be frightened by the size of the D5! Most "Chelsea" mummys will panic! The only reason i can see them not buying the above makes is the need of having a real 7 seater. Because if it's for looks, the D5 will lose the battle. For me LR is wrong to completely abandon the D3/D4 style and they will pay for this...only time will tell Rolling Eyes

Though, of those 4, aren't all making their own equivalents to the D5?

They build equally very large MPV/SUV's, such as the VW Touareg, BMW X5, Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90. The XC90 is especially close to what the D5 now offers.

It looks worrying, but it really did just download a PDF to my PC.

Maybe you're right. I never compared their sizes with a measure tape but the D5 looked and felt very big to me. The interior though felt like an average size SUV! I think because it's lower than the D4.
The XC90 seemed more "compact"...

I have mixed feelings about the D5 such was my high expectations. It wasn't for sure love at first sight! Laughing

Living in Sevenoaks where pretty much every other car is a LR, RR, BMW, Audi, Volvo 4x4, I have only seen 1 D5 and that was my friend's who picked it up on the day it was the launch date. She bought it 'off the shelf' so to speak, the week beforehand as it was in the showroom (Black HSE Fully loaded with extras).

We have sooo many Landmarks driving around (me included). The deals were insane last summer and it was crazy not to take advantage of them. As a snapshot, there are 8 16/66 plate Landmarks alone at the kids junior school (also 5 new Volvo XC 90s, 4 DS, 2 Audi).

It feels that they are trying to sell the D5 to a saturated market. On another note, I also think they screwed the launch to prospective new buyers. Giving you some 3D virtual tour for you to make your mind up about forking out £70k is a bit silly.

Also something feels wrong. I hear on the Disco5 site there are a few glitches/build issues with the build of the D5. Reading them makes me sad because I know how passionate we all are about our cars. There has been a lot of hope and excitement and I would be extremely frustrated and anxious as a new owner.

The current cars been in production for 12 years and my 16MY needed adjustment to the tailgate. Faults occur regardless of the length of production. I'm not worried at all, looking forward to it, hopefully pick it up next Saturday it's not showing as left the factory yet so might be tight.

Living in the US were almost every other SUV is a Ford Explorer and the police also use the Explorer as their main police cruiser, just makes the D5 look like the upgrade to the Explorer. My brother has a 2017 Explorer and my sister in law has a 2016 Explorer. I don't see too may LR3/4 around. In LA everyone has a Range Rover, RRSport, RREvoque or a Ford Explorer. The D3/4 was not so popular. I think the D5 will be a big hit here more then the D3/4.

Funnily enough so did we with our original my16 D4, along with a long list of other things, so the very nice dealership swapped it out for another.

Just read this thread which made me write my comment.

https://disco5.co.uk/forum/thread125417.html

All concerns being said, I'm really looking forward to seeing your car pictures here. I love a shiney new car!!! Fingers crossed you get it sooner rather than later xxx

I have observed that in a bigger cities here you can meet RR, RRS, FR2, D3/4. Simply - if you have a cash and if you like this brand then you are an owner of this kind of car. But the most of the people I know is proud owner and really like their Defenders and D1/2/3/4. Who knows what will be later?
PS. Probably in a perspective of the next 50 years all of us we will be using autonomous cars (cabs) ... and their shape and brand will be not important like today Shocked
