DPF regeneration and gear fault / surging

I have a weird intermittent problem where very infrequently (5 times in 5000 miles) my D4 develops a on-off / on-off power problem. Feels like it is changing up and down gear and seems to occur at a constant speed or light acceleration. It seems to coincide with the engine making a very throaty exhaust noise as it does when regenerating the DPF. The effect can be quite severe at time like kangarooing when learning to drive a manual but goes as soon as I let off the throttle. Lasts for 5-10 mins and then perfect again. Exhaust noise back to normal.

There are no faults on the iid tool. Can't be reproduced easily so garage can't find anything. Any ideas??

I had something like this last month in the middle of a 30 mile journey to work. Lots of weird gear changing and a bit like a bucking bronco round all the twisty country roads. Lasted about 10 miles and all fine again by the time i reached work. Assumed it was dpf related, and it hasn't reoccured since. Mine is also Indus silver, perhaps thats a factor Mr. Green

Interesting. Mine is exactly as you describe. It feels like it is going into neutral but for a fraction of a second and can be a real thump when it comes back in if you are accelerating. I thought maybe the torque converter but it is so infrequent that I can't think what would cause it. I'll get a respray and see if that helps Rolling with laughter

Hi disco4.jasond - and does yours only seem to happen infrequently and when the pdf sounds like it is regenerating? Notice yours is silver too...might be a pattern here Laughing

Hi cosmic. Not sure if I hear a noise to be honest as I have the radio on. Lol must be only silver discos that suffer from this strange behaviour. It hasn't done it for a while. Going to change engine oil this weekend and will have a look around to see if anything is out of place Question

My D4 is also Indus Silver but there has not been a problem. Then again the fact I don't use cruise control might explain it. I might read the manual and then give it a try. Laughing
2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.
