What's the deal if you are the successful bidder, or the Buyer Now, if you are buying stolen goods on eBay?

Interesting the range of new, low priced goods that this seller has had available...........

I was going to say something about 'wet blanket thrown all over us'
BUT
You are absolutly right and correct.
I have had the same thought myself, and in that case I(we) loose twice.

However, This guy has been selling since July regularly and I would think even theves have some realisation that milking one outlet is foolish. Dont know I am not a thief.
So as i said, if you are right, I (we) face the music with our other disco3.co.uk purchasers.
If you are wrong, then we have saved some cash. There is no way I can check this before purchase I am afraid.

Do you work for a dealer ? For me this is an opportunistic purchase I would not otherwise have made.

Some dealers have parts that are not wanted by customers after changes, but this Thirsk source certainly appears to have a lot of spares, too many.

I purchased a rubber boot liner from my dealer at a low price, but it was damaged and they only had the one, plus it came with a receipt.

The eBay person just has too much for my comfort, especially when most dealers cannot get a tow hitch anyway seperatly. Put me down as a cynic!

Yep , and he's in a funny spot between several dealers. The nearest being Ripon Land Rover / Ripon farm services. Which is a family run enterprise where the salesman I bought off moved to after he left Pendragon(Stratstone).

I have been speaking to him re the value of my 'S' WRT replacement. I could ask him if they know anything about the seller on e-bay, as it's a close knit area with a decent grapevine.

Or I can keep quiet if you guys are worried.
Your call.

I have what I believe to be Daniel's full address and telephone number, as he appears to be reluctant to take a personal cheque in payment, preferring paypal or credit card. Should anyone want them, please pm me.

DrLex, not accepting a personal cheque is no indication of anything other than caution. As you are probably aware, cheques can be stopped and the 'seller' left 'high and dry'. Hope I havnt misunderstood.

Who knows ? It is right to be cautious, and there is no protection against dishonest practices on eBay - anyone can be a victim.

My guess is that this seller is probably legit, and sorry to say, but I am not comfortable with this public forum casting doubt over a person's character without any evidence. Wouldn't like it to be done to me.

I propose that, as BN has said, we leave this particular aspect of eBay life alone now.

On a purely technical note, that part number of the electrics is listed in the Microcat parts system (confusingly) as '12N/12S 7 pin electric socket 'CDN/USA' In fact that is the only twn socket kit available.

...

You have Embarassed Sorry!
With all ebay transactions, it's "buyer beware". All ebay purchases (bar 2) I have made have been by personal cheque; the seller merely waits for the cheque to clear before posting the item. I take the view that if I'm paying in advance, I want to know the seller's details.

I just find it odd that payment is requested as either credit card or paypal; I'm not really comfortable with providing credit card details to an individual and I have had a bad experience with paypal. That's my only reason for casting doubt - nothing else. If one's punting a few hundred quid on gear, then you look for anything odd.

I obtained the seller's details from ebay & BT - if those who want to enquire about the source of his goods and/or assure themselves of his bona fides prior to bidding/purchasing, then pm me for a copy and they can contact him direct.

OK Martin, you can shift this to Off Topic now - Very Happy
