United Kingdom 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 Base 7 Seat Manual Tonga GreenDiscovery 3
7 seat conversion

I have a 2005 d3 on springs. The 3rd row seats are in the floor but no seat belts. Is it easy to add seat belts and would it be legal. Thanks

Im sure that d3 on springs are commercials hence missing belts take d pillar cover off and look for holes filled with silicone ... could be wrong.

Anyway i dont think you can put 3rd row in a springed version because its on springs ..

Have you checked for air bags above 3dr row rear window ... if it has no probs if not wont be legal or i would do it without air bags you take a side swipe and someone gets killed because of air bags missing.

Thumbs Up

Have done the same to my coil sprung base D3, the captive nuts for the seat belts are welded on the sheet metal in the correct place behind the panel, just use the correct size drill and tap the hole out with the correct tap and get the correct handed seat belt units (they are different)
Remember the D3 is designed to carry heavy cargo, I have carried heavy items in the back and the springs have not sagged, so carrying seven persons is not going to have any impact on the springs

Thumbs Up

The believe first D3' s were available as a base model 5 seater with coils and was not available with 7 seats on coils. I suspect it is not type approved to have extra seats fitted

If it wasent meant to be a 7 seater. Why would the seats be fitted. The only thing not fitted are the seatbelts

You're assuming it was built with seats in the back...

No D3 left the factory with coil springs and 7 seats, to be a 7 seater it MUST have air suspension.

So you think the seats were fitted aftermarket. So it would not be legal to fit seatbrlts and use them.

You would need to speak to your insurance company as you are modifying a car built with 5 seats and adding 2 in the boot, without mirroring the factory setup (air suspension).

Quote is there an air bag attached to the d pillar ( pull the plastic rear trim that the seat belt goes through out and look at the pillar does it have a metal pipe with wires attached at the bottom that goes up towards the roof .... if not can only be a 5 seater .

All the bodies are the same be it commercial /2seater /5 seater / 7 seater it whether its got full protection to occupants re air bags / type approval body wise

Of course you can do it - you can fit seats into the back of a transit van, or a vw transporter to make a camper van. Just tell the insurance company they are type approved seats and seat belts.

As long as the rear axle weight doesn't go over whats allowed then it isn't overloading.
