Yes, that's what I did (my post doesn't read too clearly).
I put the key in the metal box, sat in the car with the box on my lap (and the key inside), then tried to start it, and it displayed 'smart key not found'.
Clearly Land Rover are not the only manufacturer with this issue, and there is plenty of information on the net about the 'Faraday Cage' effect that an enclosed metal box has on the radio signals to and from the key.2012 - 8 Speed D4 HSE in Indus Silver with surround cameras, adaptive headlamps, privacy glass, rear entertainment, 20" alloys.

Gone HSE with Flappy Paddles. IID BT tool. RLD Spare Protector, Altox GPS.
I’ve disabled the keyless entry, but noticed that there is a fuse linked to the OBD port, thinking it may be worth pulling the fuse.
Fuse 66 in the passenger compartment.

I put my key in a small yale steel safe and carried it out to the car. Touched the handle & it unlocked. Seems not all metal boxes will work.
Will be ordering myself a couple of pouches I think

They are exactly what ive got, arrived today from Amazon. They do the job nicely. Will use one to keep the spare key in and the other for the main key when not in use.
Worth noting though that it only blocks the signal if the key is put into the main pocket. If its put into the front pocket the signal is not blocked.

Also don't forget that the same scanning technology can be used in car parks etc, so probably best to use one of the RFID pouches when out and about especially if you park in public car parks. I am sure there was a recent post where someone got done in a Birmingham multi storey. I have switched my keyless entry off to avoid the situation and got a disclockWhen you are dead, you do not know you are dead. All of the pain is felt by others. there's a £6 signal defender pouch on amazon that will fit both keys. You can stand next to the car with the key and still can't get in.
