Handbrake shoe fitting

I’m in the middle of changing the handbrake shoes, how tight do the discs go back on? I have got them in but there is no slack, acording to bodseys Brake bible I have to set the shoes with a torque then back of the adjuster 8 clicks? I can’t get any?

Did you release the Allan bolt too?
Give the drum a tap with a hammer to centralise them.

I did the hex bolt before they were fitted, I've been up the road to see what it's like, binding 😕 Anyone had same prob with aftermarket parts? I know what I'm doing mechanically, never had this problem before

I think you're going to have to pull it apart again as it sounds like the adjusters aren't retarded far enough. You might get away with trying to release them using the flat blade screwdriver, but the discs should go on with ease and little or no shoe contact if the adjusters and hex are right. Take your time with it as it doesn't like to be rushed!! Haven't come across ill fitting aftermarket parts, what make?

If you undid the hex prior to fitting g the discs it can slip too far! With the adjusters wound all the way back and disc is still binding then this is a likely cause. The disc should go on with ease! If not you may need to adjust the hex but be careful as its tricky to adjust lever against tension!

Ok so the only thing I can see is that maybe the epb hasn’t released enough when I did the bodsey service mode and remove fuse, can I release it any more?

The allen bolt shouldn't be released until the disc is on, and adjusted back to 8 clicks (off).
Then undo the allen bolt tension and tap around the drum. Re tighten the allen bolt.

If you did this before disc was refitted, it will have caused problems.

Suggest you reset to SERVICE setting.
Take discs off and check that the shoes are FULLY retracted, and against the adjuster on its retarded position.
The allen bolt adjuster should also be FULLY retracted.
Then refit disc and adjust as per manual ( Bodsy or otherwise).
Once done, and the wheel is refitted, you may have a very small amount of binding- VERY small. The wheel should turn freely tho'.
Bed them in as advised. (Mine didn't need anywhere near 10 applications to work properly).

Good luck.. and as said, take your time.
