Front Wheel bearing.. failing miserably!
Hi there.. I'm trying to get off my front wheel bearing hub. As above I'm failing miserably. I'm two breaker bars down.. one abused using a tube. I also have a 1/2" heavy duty impact gun.
I still can't get it to move. I have tried the smaller bar with a big hammer and still no luck..
Any pointers before I take it to a garage i know to get the nut moving with a bigger impact gun!!
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply..
Yeah the good old centre nut! I have knocked it up the best I could.
In the past someone has dotted the retainer and then give it some more. So the retained part of the nut is on the thread. It's on the right hand of the recession. At first I thought it had moved.
I'm thinking now to maybe give the retainer another release and deal with the thread if it gets damaged. Mmmm
It's deffo not falling off!

Mine did put up a fight. Found that welting bar with large club hammer was more effective than long scaffold pole.
Annoyingly I do have a 1" drive socket set with appropriately oversized t-bars etc but out on loan to a mate when I needed it. Thankfully the snap on breaker did take the punishment! Not such a Disco Newbie now!

I'm going to repair the knuckle and get someone to to hang off the breaker bar while I hit it!
If all else fails it is back hander at the garage!

I had this last week. In the end my mate came round with a 3/4 1m long breaker and jumped on it.
Obviously keep the wheel on and on the ground. Ideally, someone with their foot on the brake at the same time so that your efforts are not taken up by any slack.
I too broke a knuckle on a 600mm 1/2 breaker bar but you too could try what I did which was to use a trolley jack to lift the end of the breaker bar...

It's amazing what you can do with 1/2 inch stuff but when it gets really tight you can often undo things with little effort with a 3/4 drive that seem impossible with 1/2 inch stuff. At work I regularly use 7ft scaffold bars over 3/4 inch stuff and then still struggle, then you know it's tight! Lol.
Anyway offer stands if you want to pop over.

Use the trolley jack to put a decent amount of pressure on the bar then squarely hit the breaker bar knuckle with a lump hammer, it may take a couple of good whacks but the shock should loosen the nut.De-Tango

try heating it up with a torch lamp. At least it helped me every time a bolt or nut was fu ng tight.Achim

Thanks for all the replies.
Pete.. I really appreciate the offer. I just found out my father in law has a 3/4 set in his garage.
I use a 3/4 gun regularly at work and you take them for granted. My 1/2" stuff has never failed me at home... until now ha ha.
Ill be tackling it this week.. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks everyone again.

Well a raging success!
Used the 3/4 gear with a tube for extra leverage. One dunt with the lump hammer and hey presto!
The disc was a bit of a chew to get off due to corrosion on the inner surface.
Cleaned up the hub retaining bolts exposed threads as they were a bit corroded. Used a die nut and wire brush.
I would say this job is a homer provided it goes ok. If you start going wrong you could end up in trouble if you don't have the gear.
