Guess that noise....

For a bit of fun while Im waiting for LR assist to come and tell me the real answer, who want to have a guess at the cause of my car's new noise?

It started this afternoon as soon as I drove away from my parking place. It's a fairly loud hissing sound that sounds to be coming from in front of the bulkhead or under the dashboard. It sounds like the ventilation fans running fast but is present even with the ventilation fully turned off.

The noise only happens during acceleration and is loudest during moderate acceleration and seems to change to a quieter version if I floor it and get the revs above 3000. There's no smoke and no loss of power. The car is still driving normally. Confused

What do you reckon? Turbo hose? I've got an extended warranty, so it shouldn't be the sound of money being sucked out of my wallet Laughing

Well, I think I got my money's worth from the warranty with that one Shocked

LR assist had diagnosed the split intercooler but it turned out to be the crossover pipe.

So I've had a call out from LR assist, priority repair at the dealer (if I hadn't called LR assist the soonest they could book the car in was next week), a new crossover pipe (which seem to cost £600), the labour to fit it (which is apparently a b***ER of a job) and a D4 landmark to drive for 5 days.

I think I can justify renewing the warranty in a couple of months. Laughing Thumbs Up

And that, folks is why you should keep your warranty running.

Sounds very good. I presume this is a LR warranty?
That type of service is worth a premium , but depends how much more that Warranty Direct it is.
Got to think about this in 16 months, so a while yet, but want to make sure I have a decision ready to go rather than do research and think about it at 15 1/2 months!

Yes, that's the LR warranty. I looked at the warranty direct offering, it was cheaper but they refused to provide any cover at all for my car because it is used in places that are not tarmacked. The don't cover vehicles at all if they are ever driven off road or on un-surfaced roads. Evil or Very Mad

For me, this incident has highlighted the extra value (all be it at an extra cost) of the LR warranty. With a different warranty, I wouldn't have got the priority service at the dealers, I might have had to hire a replacement vehicle until mine was fixed and I'd probably have had to pay the bill and claim it back.

Thanks for confirming JonM

Does anyone have any comparable experience? It seems a lot of people go for WD on here, but this experience seems to be worth a premium. Also I wasn't aware of not being able to drive off Road at all. I wonder if all the WD warranty people on here are aware?
Cheers

Yes I can confirm a similar excellent service from LRA, on extended warranty.

Freelander 2 would not start one morning.
One phone call to LRA.
Within 30 mins a technician arrived and confirmed a fault.
Shortly later a low load took away my car to the dealers.
90 mins after my initial call I had an almost new top spec Discovery Sport for 4 days of my drive.
My car was then returned to me with some free fuel added and of course repaired and clean FOC.

So all I had to do was one phone call.

As an aside, I didn't really like the Disc Sport, and that's how I now own a MY16 Discovery4.

Worth the expense of the extended warranty for quick and easy service the lack of hassle. Didn't even have to sign anything.
