You can upgrade all the bulbs to give a good improvement. Check forum sponsor Advanced Factors website for options. Sidelights need an LED and main and dipped something like an Osram Nightbreaker or equivalent. Plus dont forget the LED bulbs for reverse - the ones from AF are excellent. Thumbs Up

Ditto for me on the original post.

Can the headlight units be swapped out for Zenons with the fairy lights? Or is there more to it than that?
(I'm guessing it wouldn't be that simple!)

Swap the headlights to Valeo xenon units takes about 15mins you may need a flat blade screwdriver to pull the clips up that hold the headlights in but that's it plug straight in the just get your ccf edited to suit them easy job Thumbs Up

I upgraded mine to xenons with fairies. They are not true drls as that requires more work. I did upgrade the main beam bulbs before fitting. From memory I think I had to change a setting in the CCF using an IID. There are many chaps on the forum who can do this for you if you don't have an IID or equivalent.

Bonus!
Thanks for the quick response.

What is CCF is this easy to update?
Will an indie dealer be able to do this or can I buy a dongle or something similar.

New to this, so apologies if this is an obvious answer.

It's the Car Configuration File. The car needs to be told you've changed to xenons. To do this you need something like the IID tool from Gap that plugs into the OBD port under the steering wheel. Fairly simple to use if you follow the instructions carefully. There was a group buy going a little while back not sure if thats still going though. They cost £400 but you can resell for £300 when you sell the car. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the info dlgis

Has anybody swapped to the later facelift headlights?

I was told that the bumper/grill & wings needed changing by one supplier, but was told by another that it was just the bumper/grill that needed changing.

For a D3 yes wings need to be trimmed or replaced to look like a D4 and a new bumper and grille.
A MY10-13 D4 would just need new bumper, grille and lights to look like a D4 MY14 (and wing mirrors if you are going for the full upgrade)

There are various different flavours to this with D4 grilles that fit D3's etc. etc. which you'll find all over the forum.

Thumbs Up

Upgraded the side lights to LED from Advance Factors & put Philips X-treme 130% brighter bulbs in dipped & main beam on mine - a lot cheaper than Xenons & are certainly good enough for the country driving I mainly do Thumbs Up

Incidentally, I used to put Osram Night Breaker Unlimiteds in my old D2 & F1 but they'd blow in 3-6 months (lasted longer in the summer due to less time being used compared to darker winter months). Changed to Philips over a year ago in the F1 and not had to replace a bulb yet. D4 had Philips fitted 51 weeks ago - I'll have had it a year next Saturday, and not had to replace one in that either.

Good Stuff.
I think I'll start with upgrading the bulbs to begin with and see what difference they make.

Incidentally It's just the dipped beam I find poor on this car, the main beam is really good.
Saying that, Its still not a patch on the all singing Zenons that were fitted to my D3 Metropolis Big Cry

Does anybody else have problems with just dipped beam, or is it possibly just the way they are aligned?

any ideas where I can get a set from? I'm looking like crazy for some, the std halogen lights kill the car plus whats the point of having fairy light lenses without the LED's!
