I'm not sure, it's lighter than the D4 but not a lot.

The 16MY D4 feels sprightly, I was expecting it to be at least the same if not better.

Well went out in a D5 today for a run around 3.0 HSE Lux. Did normal roads stop start traffic and then motorway.
Initial thoughts were it was noisier than the D4 that was till I got back in the D4 then realised it was a lot quitter in the D5.
The car felt very sure footed, acceleration was better then the D4 and so was handling and cornering. Stop start seemed a lot better and more responsive, cutting in and out much better.
One down side for me was the cameras can no longer be activated on the move...........
Sat nav and control panel seemed a lot more refined and a lot quicker.
Seats were comfy certainly in the front, Mark did think the 2nd row was a bit stiffer than the D4.
Overall I was impressed and it seemed to be a much more premium vehicle.
Whilst there got talking to a couple with a RRS2, they had just driven it and thought that it was better than the RRS2 to the pint they were looking to possibly order a D5 1st Edition.

As the D5 is over 10 years down the evolution scale, surely it should be head and shoulders better than a D4. That is coming across in official Land Rover road tests, sorry I mean independent road tests Whistle But the majority of seasoned D4 owners on here don't seem to be saying that (Better yes, but not much better) I haven't driven one so can't comment.

I'm waiting to have a go in the Supercharged Petrol, that will be the only version that will get me trading my D4. There has to be something very special about a car that makes you trade a car you like owning so much and I just don't think in diesel form the D5 will do it. If the 3.0 Supercharged behaves like it should and returns high teens mpg I will give it some serious attention.

Other wise it could be another marque when it comes to change next time Big Cry

Why, oh why, did they not extend the full height of the headlight to meet the grille? Ruins the front end, IMO...

From memory they are 68K and as for deal there is always a deal to be had but it always cost you more for a new car either way
Was I impress yes I was. As for the tailgate and sharp edges yes there were sharp edges but my lad is 6 foot and still able to safely walk under the tailgate when it was up, and the corner was no different to the comer of the upper tailgate on the D4

I would imagine that as soon as you sat on that, the back of your pants would immediately get muddy from whatever mud and dirt accumulated on the back of the vehicle...does it extend out any further than that? It does not really seem sufficient.

In any case, I saw the Vision and realized that I better get a D4 before they stopped, and I am very glad I did! I am sure that the D5 is great for many people, but to my taste it loses the vast majority of the nice things in the D4. It feels almost like they all got into a meeting and said, "how can we make the discovery less distinctive, more expensive and gaudier? Oh, and be sure to make a list of the best features of the D4 so we can be sure that we get rid of them..." Again, I am sure that it is perfect for many, but it was a colossal disappointment for me.

The Electro plank is a poorly designed after thought. The edges are too sharp when you sit on it and cut into the back of your legs and you will foul your clothes on the rear bumper and tow bar if you use it.

Its funny how important it is for the FFRR but how us Disco drivers are unworthy. Sad

One review I saw was talking about how you could put the rear seats down with your smart phone, how there was wifi built into the car etc. I wish they would have focused on how to retain the visibility, driving position and off road suitability (i.e. a smaller wheel option), while still updating the car and improving efficiency. It bums me out that they are taking it in the direction that they are going, as there are so many cars that already serve that demographic -- they have four in their own line! The Evoque, RRS, Range Rover and Discovery Sport are all basically the same car with changes in size and luxury level, why do they have to homogenize the Discovery as well?
Some random photos below on my environment...sorry, no soccer moms around.

It has better off road ability than any Discovery before it and comes with 19" wheels as standard on the lower spec S and SE just like the D4.

Though I wouldn't say to someone who has spent the best part of £100k that his/her car is the same as the Disco Sport.

That aside though, Iceland is on my bucket list, fabulous country just never got round to visiting.

They are not the same cars, but they are for the same purpose -- tooling around the city with a bunch of kids (discovery sport) or your entourage (Range Rover). Even though they are all capable off road, they are all meant more for the city than for the country. One can make the argument for the D4 as well, but it still retained more of the off-road roots than the others. It also had more of a "safari vehicle" kind of feel -- everyone is sitting up high and comfortable, the visibility is great from all seats and in all directions. It has a huge and practical load area.

Anyway, I know the D5 has many of these things, I just think it has them to a lesser extent than the D4 does. For me, the visibility, seating position and load space are more important than gadgets. As for the wheels, I have the 18" compomotives and I would have smaller if I could. I hope for the D5 owners' sake that they fit the D5 as well. It sounds like they do. Wouldn't it be nice though if instead of allowing the smartphone to fold the rear seats, they made more room in the wheel wells for larger tires or chains? I know some people can tell me just to get a Land Cruiser, but I would tell them just get an X5 or Q7! In any case, they can't please everyone. I am just cranky that they didn't please me. I got the D4 because I live in the countryside and work in the city an hour away. I am a photographer so I am often in the highlands and in areas with very bad roads, but I still have to drive long distances, which I would like to do in comfort. The D4 does that perfectly for me, but I hope that by the time it needs replacement, they have something more suitable for me than the D5.

If I could get a D4 with a TD6 I would. Since I can't I am "settling" for a D5 with TD6.
