hi, i was just wondering if anyone has used a trials bike carrier on their detatchable tow hitch recieiver. i havent used mine yet but would like any feedback or thoughts on my set up. i know a fixed towbar would be the best option but detachable is whats on my motor (my05) thanks
the detachable has a 3.5t rating i cant see any problem with your set up personalyRange Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8 what a car

Really? I'm sure that is a towing weight. I'm sure the OP is talking about nose/vertical weight. I assume the bike carrier takes the full weight of the bike. I would be worried about the twisting of the tow bar. The fixed tow bar would be better for lateral movement. Or have I miss-understood?

you are correct john p, the whole weight of the bike is on the bike rack across the back of the vehicle, the 2" reciever is one hell of a lump though.

I believe the max nose weight on the D3 is 150 kg so you should be fine

Very true but i have seen detachable towbars with a similar set up used on "normal" cars where the detachable tow bar is now way near as sturdy as the one in the D3-4 i know some say its not fit for purpose but if inserted correctly, removed when not in use etc they are more than upto the job they were designed for.
If it were me and i was going to be using it on a regular basis id have a fixed tow bar but if its infrequent use it should be okRange Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8 what a car

That's very interesting, where does the detachable towbar (not the rack the other bit) come from?
I used to use a bike rack for my MX bike many years ago and it was brilliant. I didn't think you could get one for the LR detachable tow system.

the part that goes into the car is a land rover hitch receiver, the other part is a pintle 2" receiver drop plate with standard hole dimensions for a tow ball or other bolt on parts like the bike rack.
