Hi Mike

Battery has been tested and is OK. It is a Yuasa battery and has been very good indeed in terms of reliability starting the car. Had a Bosch battery for about 2 years and that began to not hold a charge, and Halfords swapped it for the Yuasa which has been in the car for about 2-3 years.

2-3 years can be the life of a battery with hard use. It may still start the car but can cause problems such as yours if it's getting a tad weak Thumbs Up

I'd check all the earth points as well make sure they are solid and not loose or corroded.

Dealer has checked battery and it is ok.

I now have the car back and it appears to be ok. I don't know if the alternator had been changed for the second time. It may be the case that it has now been changed. Its so hard to believe what you are told by these dealers. I have had so many bad/unsatisfactory experiences with dealers over the last 40 years which always puts doubt in one's mind.

All I can do now is to wait and see if I get a repeat of this problem.

Been using a 16 year old Rover 25 (my daughter's) which we bought for £250 over 4 years ago which just seems to keep on going without any issues. I would be very happy if the Discovery went 4 years fault free.

Cheers for everyone's suggestions and help - much obliged.

MG.
