Hi,
Sorry if this has been covered before but am new today.
I bought a 2006 Disco 3 TDV6 and have had a few probs since purchase.
When I first bought the car the steering was all over the place...the car seems to follow every contour in the road making for a very jelly like ride.
The steering feels extremely light ( maybe it should ) but the slightest input makes massive differences on the road.
I took it to an Landrover Dealer, they said the ride height was out on one corner ( higher at the offside rear ) which was causing the vague steering.
The guy plugged in his wotnot and made the car level....2 days later back to square one.
Took it back, turns out the cable harness to the offisde rear had rotted and was causing the height probs..
Replaced the wiring...drove it away and it all seemed fine, except, again, anything other than a flat surface and the landy tends to veer into depressions in the road and road cambers..making it very hard to steer in a straight line...its like driving a bath full of water...
Is this just me or the weight of the vehicle itself.
I was so pleased when I finally had the money to buy this lovely motor but presently want nothing to do with it as it feels unsafe.
have you checked track rod ends for play if i drove over the white lines in the road the car would veer to the right so i checked the track rods and there was play in both after changing it was much better, also check tires for correct inflation and even wear then steering rackRange Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8 what a car

Hi and thankyou,
The Landrover Dealer replaced one track rod end when i first took it to them.
Tyres are 36 psi rears and 34 psi fronts so im guessing steering rack..
I had 2 new rear tyres fitted, strange thing is before that the car would drive in a straight line, maybe i need the front tyres replacing ?
The difference in drive from worn tyres seems to be very noticeable on these what make of tyre do you have how much tread is left why not swap them round and see if it changes anythingRange Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8 what a car

Presumably the wheel alignment has been checked after track rods replaced. Mine was all over the place and very sensitive to road imperfection until 4 wheel alignment done.

aahhh...that may be the case...
I read somewhere that 4 wheel alignment can be tricky I usually use Blandford Tyres who have a wheel alignment rig..will call them to book her in...if they do 4 wheel stuff that is !!
Thankyou to you guys for offering up your expertise, much appreciated and more than helpful.

Just a word of warning ,if any of the tyres are unevenly worn, it is difficult getting alignment set up properly as it will load the suspension bushes one way or the other.

totallly agree with u there
when i first bought mine, it would wander all over the place
back os tyre was low, pumped it up and was better
however as soon as it rained it was very twitchy
got new tyres on the front as they were around 2.0 mm of tread left
a lot better
then had the backs also done,
what a difference , will now sit nice and straight at motorway speeds
it didn't feel right on the first 50 x miles but after that it really settled down
when we had that small amount of snow i couldn't resist to see how it performed
was fantastic , didn't even have to use the terrain response system
really impressed
these were with cooper at3 tyres

its really strange...i had 2 new tyres on the rear and since then the cars all over the road...seems to dive for any contour / camber and follow it...although on a flat road ( motorway ) no sign of any problems..
before i had the rears done it seemed a lot better ?
maybe its tyres...they have approx 2-3 mm on them left but having had new rears maybe this is what is causing the issue ?
2-3 mm there ready for changing but just put the new ones on the front and i bet your ride will improve no end as i said before worn tyres can cause these types of issuesRange Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8 what a car

totally agree with furnitureman
when mine only had a few mm left it was very twitchy
new tyres all round totally transformed it
sounds daft i assume the tyres have the correct pressure in them
