The styling is growing on me I must say, however the tech isn't moving things on enough for me, if you wanted anything the D5 has in terms of tech you could have had it three years ago in a FFRR.

The practicality is still less and the lack of split tailgate a real shame and loss that takes the differentiator away and makes one now look at the many other rivals which due to not having a split tail you'd not have bothered with previously.

Drivetrain wise they are playing safe with the old tech but this isn't for me until hybrid comes out, they really showed a lack of bleeding edge and leading the market by not debuting new tech on this car.

Volvo, despite their teething troubles with the T8 are being far more innovative and working harder to be best in class. May be the D5.5 will be the one bit at the moment this is more of an exercise in style over anything useful or class leading Thumbs Up

D5 based on Solihulls finest, the FFRR, no need to worry about suspension.

That's a really valid point, it is based on the current FFRR. I don't care much for the styling discussion, actually it's ok in my eyes. Unfortunately it's a new car that in reality is a new body sitting on a 6 year old platform. In any other manufacturers terms that's old hat.

6 years ain't old. Considering the DS and Evoque are still running around on modified Freelander platforms. The all aluminium D7u platform is as modern as it gets, why change it? It's an adaptable platform.

Each to their own opinion but afraid I don't agree. The platform is over 6 years old, in usual modern model cycles the replacement for that platform should already be 80% ready. Note, I didn't say it would stop me from having one (hey using my logic my 2016 D4 is essentially 12 year old technology) or that there was any particular issue with that, more a statement of fact as I see it.

The D7u platform has only been in production since 2012, L405 FFRR was the first to receive it the platform was intended to be adaptable.

Couldn't have put it better Thumbs Up LR is being left behind and have decided to compete in a very crowded space where any Euro / Korean SUV will do pretty much the same job. Shame really. Sad

The D5 can do so much more than Hyundai/Kia plus all the rest. I had a Tucson then a Santa Fe, good cars but not a patch on the Disco, D5 included.

Oh dear.
Despite the D5 being the best off-roading car far better than any other Discovery models people are comparing it to non Off roaders.

It's not compulsory to buy a D5, you can still keep your D4's.

Yes, obviously, as I said over 6 years old assuming they didn't develop it in a day....

It is adaptable - clearly given it already has given rise to three different models and soon a fourth - that doesn't make it any newer though.

Re: it's adaptable....

The first practical petrol engine was built in 1876

I'm assuming it's evolved since then Banging Head Banging Head

Is there any evidence to support this statement? I have seen nothing to show that pushed to the limits the D5 is any better than anything else. Indeed everything I've seen on various videos is stuff my works Shogun could do. This is not to stay the D5 is not capable but until there is some actual evidence any assertion that it is the best ever is as delusional as Corbyn supporters saying he'll win the next election.

Let's get one of these new motors and properly find out what its limits are before we announce it being the Second Coming.

Not sure this is "evidence" but a positive review from a journalist who has driven FFRR & pro wranglers
