OBD P042D ?? TDV 6, DPF --> Engine System Failure, Limp

Hi folks,

i´m getting the P042D code with a engine system failure message in the display. No more codes, only this one.

Today i renewed the sensor past the cat.

Driving home, the failure returned again - engine system failure - same code.

Engine off. A few seconds later start again - then i can drive a while till the next event.

Regular it happens, when i want some power from the engine in 6th or 5th gear, between 90 an 110 km/h - so as driving a incline road or towing a trailer. When the hill is done and i ease the accelerator pedal for coasting, the engine system often shuts down. Sometimes in the incline.

Is the code known to be thrown in relation to the turbo actuator linkage? Someone got this code too?

Which is the latest engine software for the TDV 6 with particular filter. MY 2007/2008?

Bye

Jo

Hello,
I have got the same expirience for quit Some time now.
With the same faultcode.
After restarting the engine everything is ok and sometimes the problem stays away for 100 km and then suddenly it appears again.
P042d is the faultcode.
A lot has been done but the problem keeps coming.
Have you got a solution?

Thanks!

Sounds like a bad connection or intermittent wire break. Check where the sensor plugs in, if ok follow it back to ECM behind battery.

To the best of my knowledge, this is a downstream oxygen sensor, heated type.
Usually,I see this on NAS petrol models.
Maybe it starts failing when the car gets hot. Cool it down when this happens ( drive through a stream for instance or hose it) and see if it goes away.

If it does, change it or check whether you have too much obstruction in your exhaust, causing a heat block. That you can do with a heat pistol.

The problem is the missing documentation, not the LR

I just read the header again. Sorry.

OK that is even easier. Get rid of DPF. (had this once here) and call Pete Bell to reprogram your engine, get a DPF free tweak and you will never have trouble again.

Thanks for the advice.
Next week the dpf will be taken empty and also de egr valves will be taken away.
And ofcourse the computer software will be changed by a trusted company.
I assume this will solve the misterious trouble i have been dealing with for half a year now.

Perhaps a little late: Bow down

workshop controlled every sensor in the way of the exhaust gases.

Reason for this faultcode was a completly burned away temperatur sensor AFTER the DPF! This inhibited the regular freeburning procedure of the DPF. DPF gets more and more clogged, reducing the passage of the gases thru the DPF. Before the DPF in this stadium, the temperature of the exhaustgases rises. Throwing P042D

Workshop renewed the sensor past the DPF, the DPF pressure sensor, the sensor in front of DPF and done a regenerating of the DPF.

This cured the failure till today.
