Local knowledge request
Hi all, I have tried quite a few searches and even paid for a parts search in the US (failed dismally) but what I would like to know is the name and or contact details of a Land Rover specialist vehicle dismantle business in the US. They are called car wreckers here in Australia and I think breakers in the UK but not sure of the common name in the US.
Thanks

Many times they are called "junk yards".
LKQ is a national collective of breakers that can/will ship items from vehicles. They are not a specialized Land Rover dismantler, but they have a very large selection of vehicles and parts.
EBay is also popular.
Cheers,
Ian

Thanks Ian, I will give it a try. I followed furnituremans suggestions, sent off a couple of emails and to date no reply, which has been my overwhelming experience with trying to talk to junkyards in the states......oh well it's all part of the fun.

What exactly are you looking for?
In my experience there is the consortium that Ian (hello Ian!) mentioned, which in many cases may as well be just going to the US ebay (much like we go to ebay.uk for D3 parts).
LR4's in the US tend to get picked up and picked through given the resale opportunities for used parts; whereas these days any given pull your own junkyard has ample D1 & DII's.

Hi Ray, I am in the process of upgrading my hi-line audio to a Logic 7 system and I was looking for D Pillar trims with speakers (LR052055 RH 7-seat LR052056 LH 7-seat) and the Center dash speaker p/n LR029808. You see them come up second hand every once in a while but my thought process was simply that volumes of vehicles into the states and hence the probability that their would be a greater uptake of the Logic 7 Audio option might mean the parts would be available. The cost and shipping was another factor, but I needed to find some first. This whole project is on the slow burner, so no great urgency, I can buy this stuff new out of LR in UK, so it's no problem and I might have to eventually do that but I thought why not see what I can find you never know. As it turned out, perhaps not such a brilliant idea, but worth a couple of emails and a couple of questions.
I did have a look in the LKQ site and got to the point of starting a live chat with some one but got called away, I'll have another look at it soon and like you I also check out ebay UK, it's all just an interest and a bit of fun.
Thanks for your reply.

Gotcha, I can see where this may not have gotten but so far with the normal 'breakers' here that are happy pulling Honda Accord parts that make $ quickly but don't deal well with nuance.
Happy to facilitate outreach if desired, would suggest hitting up somewhere like Overland Rovers-esp if you are on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Overland-Rovers-147451855359251/?fref=nf). If not, lemme know and I'll hit them up on your behalf.
All I ask is that at some point I may need someone to translate/guide in Aussie as it relates to aftermarket springs for the non-EAS D3's. I've got an OME kit on my truck right now, but understand there are more options there than here but much like your local knowledge request migrating through that on the web can be confusing.

No problems........thanks Ray, I will check it out and if there is anything interesting that I can not get sorted I will PM you. I am happy to help out with your springs regardless, I live 15 mins from a very big specialised LR wrecker (just do not happen to have what I am after) so let me know if I can assist, you can find them here http://www.triumphroverspares.com.au/ if you want to look at what they offer. Just for the record I am not associated in anyway, not sure what the forum rules are about this but I guess someone will let me know if I have crossed the line.

Seriously, if you hit any snags with US based stuff due to separation by the common languge-drop a line, happy to facilitate.
I didn't need that link! It is ironic how different countries covet what others have. Here in the US we have legions of high spec LR3/4's (D3/D4's) driven by suburban moms that will become ample spare parts for enthusiasts-but one glance at that site reveals a like new Kaymar rear bumper and such just there for the taking. Of course we can get those here, just at $$$.
If you are bored, one thing I was actually on here for the UK side of things looking for-and engaged a Ebay UK seller to no avail-is the circled part in the picture. Looking to blank out the air ride height adjust switch on my 3; as I'm one of those crazy Americans who retrofitted coils into an EAS truck (after it went to the bumpstops on the edge of the Empty Quarter in the UAE...for the last time).
If you can source one, drop a pm-I'd be happy to pay, send some US based Rover decals your way, etc.

When you say "grubby" is that dirty grubby or knocked around grubby? If I PM you would you mind sending the hi-res picture to me.

Well both really, bezel around one of the loudspeakers seems to have taken a bash at some stage.
Of course, PM me your email and I'll send a bunch of photos over.
These were thrown in with some seats and door cards I bought for a Discovery 4, I'm not 100% sure which model they came from. They look like the same shape and fitting as the blank pieces I have in my D4 though. I decided that as I don't have the third row seats, speakers there were probably not worth the hassle.
I did fit a speaker in the centre of the dash, but use that as the external speaker for my CB.
