It's usually a blanking plug which stops hum/crackle ISTR. Should pull out. There are two rules for success,
1. Never tell everything you know.

Hey sorry guys just got the car Saturday!! So I haven't updated my profile or anything !! It's an 06 LR3 HSE, and I took a look at it last night with a flash light and it looks like someone had broken off a pice of an aux cord in the input !!

The aux port incorporates a switch which removes noise from the aux input when something is not plugged in (it grounds the audio lines).
A plastic plug came with the DVD system to hold this switch "off" and allow the DVD audio to work correctly.
That's not to say that what is in your port isn't a snapped off plug though 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
