Glow plugs

So, sick to death of it not starting. Causes loads of Afro with the kids and the wife. Got an fbh controller but seems that's on the fritz too now so off to the garage she goes. Sad

Anything I can do to increase the chance of them not snapping or is it literally pot luck? Apparently engine out of they snap @ 1200

Sheer luck (no pun intended) if they come out or not

The tips swell up, amusing them to go tight in the head, resulting in snappage

Fingers crossed then!

Fbh controller hmm I keep getting error code 88 which apparently means fuel pump problems. Suspect it's more likely wiring and at a random guess might be linked to the fact when it's wet the car just randomly decides there's no fuel in the tank and puts the fuel warning light on, only just just come and go seemingly at random. Tried resetting etc to no avail. primes okay with idt. Might swap back to my 1533 which worked to see if it's the new box or not but has worked a few times on the new box

Sad all making me v grumpy lol

One of the many extraction tools on the market if it's easy to get at.
or heads off !

At least it shows you not to go into it like a bull in a china shop.

It's not really possible to do the D3 ones with a baking hot engine Sad

OK, so at cold temperatures I get a shudder then white smoke on start up, the shudder goes within 5 seconds, I do all the usual things, let the glow plug light go out etc...... no other issues once smoke clears. Thumbs Up

Is it time for new glow plugs? easy job......for geoff? lol

Or is it something more sinister/expensive?

If the car starts when it's below 0°C
the glowplugs are probably working

Good video that at least gives you a chance of not breaking them.

I wish they were M10 plugs in the D3/D4 as used in the video though.

Vibrating tools seem to have worked for a few on the forum.

It goes in tomorrow so fingers crossed!

Weird I can't get my fbh to fire up. Had a poke around but nothing obvious was defeated by the inner wing though! Was trying to get to the wiring behind there as I suspect that's the cause of a) intermittent fuel gauge and b) the doser error for the fbh (b1d25-15). Unless there are any other likely options?

My current problem however is how to start the car with no fbh and no glow plugs when it's below zero. Ideas? Or is it a trailer job (another hundred quid down the tube)

have you tried removing the fbh fuse for 1 minute to clear any lockout.

doesn't work on all of them but worth a go

try starting the car mid day when its warmed up ? and above 0°C

Seems warmer than 0 at the moment but just tried it and no go Sad

Will try the fuse but am currently using iid to clear the fault and a std 1533 timer to fire it up manually. It's got nearly a full tank of gas fuel gauge is registering correctly. Also got full charge on battery charger. Trying the old wait for the glow plug light to go out wait 10 and do it again before starting
