I can't understand how the D5 costs twice as much as its US cousin. An SE spec Explorer is about £30,000 and has enough capability for most peoples use. If Ford brought this to the UK I'm sure it would do very well. You could even debadge it and pretend its a D5.

I was watching a show on Netflix and they were driving these. I thought they looked good and would certainly be interested if they brought it here. I tried the Edge and quite liked it but it wasn't quite large enough inside for my family. I think the explorer would be a viable alternative. As for the £30k price it would be a miracle if it came here at that price given the edge is £35k!

Have the offending posts moved to off topic then if it bothers you so much. "Foreign cars you'd like to see in the UK".

I wouldn't put Ford in the same price range as Land Rover. It's a bit like saying a Mondeo should be the same price as a Mercedes E class,
I'm not suggesting that one is better than the other, better made or works any better but i personally see Ford in a diiferent market sector to Land Rover, if the Ford came to the UK it wouldn't be 30K, and it wouldnt be targeted in the same sector as LR, VOLVO etc, And i'd have an Explorer, had one for 3 weeks last summer in California and it was great. I did say to Mrs at that time IF the new Disco is anything like this i'm definitely having one...

That's the rub... LR are trying to move the whole brand into a higher price bracket. Are we at the stage where people will pay significantly more just because it says Land Rover or Discovery? I'm not sure how big a premium the 'brand' is worth. When you look at the starting prices for things like the Porsche Macan and Maserati Levante, you quickly realise what price bracket JLR are now playing in. It's not going to be as easy as it once was!2005 D3 HSE 2011 D4 Landmark 2016 D4 HSE Lux

Thats 8 months to get 194 members whereas the D5 site only took 6 months to hit the same figure. Just saying.
Also please note that Martin created this place to discuss the D5 if you dont like it hit the red triangle and perhaps Martin will close/lock the Discovery 5 - L462 section.

Good grief, you do pick your causes! You're going to need that thick skin there!
PS: I have no political allegiance, whether the politician in question is a 1970's / Citizen Smith throw-back, like Corbyn, or an idiotic and naive opportunist, like Maye or Johnson, or an outright loonie, such as our new friend Donald, I shall treat them very fairly and with equal contempt

Sure you think that forum users is a meaningful statistic?
Internet users in 2004/5 were 8-900 million or so - around 13% of the world's population. Internet users now - over 3,675 million - over 50% of the world's population.
Calculate that back and that makes the D3 site pickup over 3 times the rate relative to the number of internet users...
Proves nothing of course except the futility of such statistics. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

I dont know about you but I've always found LR to way overpriced, and the Macan etc all look good value until you see that the things you want to add on come to £63K. The problem with the car market in general is that these PCP's have gotten people by the balls, literally... they create everything that the industry needs, churn, repeat sales, an auction stock, used dealers stock. More OEM's are opening up or selling USED Veh's specifically because they can hit that market with finance having financed the veh ib a previous life through a PCP. Its's working for them, we are buying more New cars than ever and most households usually have 2 or 3 vehs minimum so you are hitting every price point, New, Used approved and a used from a private seller. Cars are becoming more like mobile phones and are changing all the time, we just want the next thing and the next thing and the next. Well some of us do, I've personally waited a long time for the D5 having rejected a D3.5 for the past 7 years. i did get my fingers burnt on a Freelander none sporty thing though. Now that was a bad car !Only dead fish go with the Flow !
